The GS-Xs with Antenna Diversity radios have a second wire-on-glass antenna on the rear hatch, and the radio picks the one giving the best signal.
I used to have an 82 Supra with the windshield antenna, and much to my surprise it didn't totally suck.
Most stereo shops, Radio Shack and Wal*Mart have wire-on-glass antennas, meant for places where the local hooligans get a kick out of snapping them off. They're self-adhesive, you could run one far enough up on the windshield that it wouldn't much show. One of our former regulars told stories of putting the antenna up inside the windshield pillar.

I have always wanted to hide my antenna, and I was planning on buying the powered hidden antenna from procarparts.com for $350 US or, whatever the price is. But, I was in my local audio shop the other day, and seen a nice simple 2 wire powered antenna for $60 CAD. Installed it today, and works like a charm. just mount the sticker on your back glass. If anyone else wants one, I can see how many they got. Could probly shipped for about $50 US.

Which reminds me, Ill have n antenna mast for sale soon, as soon as someone helps me with directions on how to remove mine...

I hella want to shave my antenna. Im going wingless and if I could get rid of that monstrosity erected from my car that would look goodies.

i thought i rememberred that there is an antenna in the upper part of the rear window (at least gsx) where the defroster doesn't operate, but there is a copper ribbon. I removed my antenna a long time ago and continue to get perfect reception.

Yes, on the GSX only. It's the "FM Diversity" gizmo for the stock head unit. I don't know if it ever works. Talons and Lasers didn't get it.

ok so if i want to shave the antenna i think i will get the antenna from autoloc as well. but i want to put a CB radio in my glove box so i'll need an antenna for that too. someone told me they make ONE antenna that works for both? any ideas?:dsm:

everybody around here has a cb radio so i thought i would get one and chat..
just something to do? why not

i didnt think that a hidden CB ant would work. i always thought the bigger the better when it comes to those, but then again...i have no clue.

I have the Autoloc antenna on my Eclipse. It works fine, but the reception isn't quite as good as stock. I live in the middle of nowhere, so we only get a couple of stations anyway. I rarely listen to the radio when I'm in my Eclipse so it was worth it to me.
I recall seeing a hidden CB antenna deal somewhere (it uses the AM/FM antenna). I think it was Buschur or Mach V who was selling it. They mentioned something about using it for the caravans to the Shootout. I think places like JC Whitney sell them also.

What's up Tuners? I'm interested in completely removing my antenna and filling in the hole that it leaves on the body. I don't listen to the radio. Has anyone done this or have an estimate as to how much this would cost in body work? If it's too much, it's not worth it. Just a thought. It would look sweet. Also, there is a hose I noticed connected to the antenna assembly that runs under the trunk floor. What is this hose for?

To have it done right it will cost a little bit of money but it will be worth it in the long run. You have to but-weld a piece of sheet metal into the hole where the antenna used to be, grind down the welds an then clean it all up with some body filler. Some of the problems that you can incur during the process is metal warping due to overheating (the metal on newer cars is very thin thus taking less heat to warp it, being that you are on a curve that should work for you but it is in the middle of the panel, not really close to a body line to provide support, just make sure the body guy takes his time welding it, allowing the heat to dissipate, this is the only real way to minimize warpage.) Next you will have to get a really good match with the paint, this will allow you to simply have the spot sealed and spot painted (spot painting uses a high heat clear that blends the new paint with the old paint making the fixed area was never fixed) depending on the paint on the rest of the quarter you might consider having the whole quarter replaced. Any way you choose to go you will need to have paint mixed and compared to the original paint, I mean your car is 5 years old meaning your paint has endured 5 years of sunshine and weather which could tweak the paint and provide a noticable difference b/w freshly mixed paint and old paint.
I would predict about 3-5 hours labor + materials. The hose on the bottom of the antenna is to drain any water that could get into the assembly during operation, that is why it vents out underneath the car.

My car is in the shop right now getting repainted with a new front bumper and side skirts, so I had them go ahead and shave the antenna. They charged me 100 dollars to fill the hole it left and the hole in the spoiler, but that price probably had something to do with the fact that they were painting my whole car at the time. :)

100 is decent. I'll check around, I know a kid that could paint it, just need a good guy that does body work. For now, I'll leave it disconnected so it never goes up.

Used to run a completely custom 2001 Hyundai Tiburon before my 1gen GSX. I shaved my handles for 100 a door and "Frenched" my Antenna hole for about 200 and put myself a door popper button down in it.

100 a door? That sounds mad cheap. Is that including paint? What type of keyless entry would I need to do that, without having a door open button in the antenna?

Hey everyone, I am having trouble removing my antenna. I have access to it, and have took the wiring off. But there is no screw or anything to remove, and i cant get the antenna loose. It is a Non-power antenna by the way. I would take my anger out on it and go wild, but all the jerking is starting to chip my paint. :) Any help would be great.

If i remember mine correctly, it was loose and in order for me to tighten it, i turned the part on the outside of the car with the two indents on the outside of the hole. If I'm right, all you need to do is loosen this part and it should drop out.
