Ok, so I have an issue with my antenna that I need some help with. I have a base RS model with the whip style antenna, and for some reason the antenna gets poor reception in a lot of places. Here's the weird thing, it seems worse when I have my phone charging in the cigarette lighter port. I have checked every possible way for a wire grounding out that may be pulling signal and have found nothing. Is it just time for a new antenna?

Also when I have my phone charging and connected to the AUX port on the head unit, I can hear a whirring noise that matches the RPMs so to speak. As I accelerate it becomes higher pitched and when I shift it gets lower and goes higher as I accelerate. Someone did have an amp and sub wired and they ran the remote wire to the fuse for the lighter port and wrapped it around, so now there is a wire around the fuse and I cant replace it because a plain fuse wont fit anymore. Could that be the cause?

Last thing I promise, I had my center console pulled out looking for grounds and found this plug.... anyone know what it is?

At first I thought that was related to the antenna/hatch antenna but that plug appears to be for the optional disc changer located in the trunk. If you trace it back you will find it to be fed through the passenger side and exit into the trunk with small black patches of adhesive tape to anchor it. You'll also likely find no cd changer at the end. :p

ok LOL Ill have to check it out when I get off of work.

Any ideas as to the other 2 things? My main concern is the noise when my phone is charging and hooked up to the AUX port. My concern is if its power surging its either going to fry my phone or battery or my head unit. Plus its kind of annoying LOL.

Ok, so better question... is there a safe and easy way to wire the lighter port directly to the battery so it has constant power?

There should be a ground on the antenna mounted to the body in the rear of the car. Might want to look under the plastic to see if there is a good ground there.

The wine that you are hearing from the phone is a normal thing when the phone is charging. They make a 3.5mm male to 3.5mm female (aux plug) Ground loop isolator. That should take care of the hum.

As for straight wiring the lighter, You could straight wire it if you would like but make sure that you cap off the existing power wire and run an inline fuse. I think that it would be easier to run a separate 12v outlet hidden in the front (maybe center console even).

On another note, Greetings from Jax![DOUBLEPOST=1407523661][/DOUBLEPOST]Here is a link from Ebay for the Ground loop isolator.

I would not waste the money on a rubber one. While they may look ok (at first), the antenna wire is no where long enough and the reception is not that great either (I bought and installed one on my car). Your best bet would be either fixing/replacing the power antenna or finding one of the non power antenna out of an rs or the like. Once I have a good day here in FL where it's not going to rain on me, I will be replacing my little rubber one with a stock non power antenna.

greetings back from jax! LOL. looks like my antenna issues are on hold... gotta replace the master cylinder tomorrow.

When I run a new 12v port, what size fuse should the inline be? Im assuming 10 or 15?
