When I bought my car the antenna was always up so I thought nothing of it. I installed an alpine cde 9852 unit I had laying around and realized there was a power antenna hook up on the harness i bought. This makes me think that the antenna actually goes up and down. I now have some real shitty receptions an believe this is due to the fact that the antenna doesn't move and is always up. I connected the power antenna together but the reception still sucks? Any help would be good.

i had the same issue i had no recption at all, but i dont remember what i did to fix it tho, i think it was some thing to do with the power antena not movinfg so i removed the power and just left it as a fixed antenna and boom recption!

how did you go about leaving it as a fixed antenna?

Yeah just buy a new 1 piece antenna. The power one has like 5 sections. Well over time the antenna corrodes and the connection between the 5 separate pieces gets crappy. You could try to clean the antenna first with some steel wool...but I doubt it will help much.

Mine stopped working as well so i just shaved it. Looks so much better. Although my car was already in primer. LOL. Not the most practicle idea but i like it!!!!

Follow the wire coming off the antenna, maybe it was accidently cut in the install? I couldnt imagine having the antenna in the "up" and "On" position and still getting bad reception. Hell ive jammed small pieces of wires in the antenna slots before and ive gotten perfect reception.
