Another Oil Issue

OK so as some of you know I am currently rebuilding a new engine for my car, Well in the mean time while its being done I have gotten a bad oil leak in my DD.

I got a reman head a few weeks ago and dropped it on my block while the other one is be done. I put a new head gasket on but used the same Head Studs. Now I am loosing almost a quart a week out of the back of the engine, in between the head and block. I didn't have this issue with my old head which had 184k miles on it. The head that I got was fully reman so I didn't bother to check for flatness.

I read somewhere with the 95 blocks that this is a known issue.

Trying to figure out if I blew the Head Gasket from the start because it over heated during my first start or if the head studs are stretched and bottoming out even though I got proper torque. There is no point in checking for compression hence building a new one because I have SUPER CRAPPY compression along with bad rings in #1 and going bad rings in #2.

No Smoke

Just leaking oil from head gasket and loosing ALOT of water with only Oil on the ground and water just disappearing.

Is the oil coming from valve cover in the back? stripped valve cover bolts are common

your problem is you reused your head studs, you need to all ways replace those cause they stretch when you toque them down and if you reused them the are now longer then what they where the first time, ie you are not getting a good seal and you are leaking cause of this.

Second what? You did a head gasket, did not resurface the head and you reused the head bolts. Are you expecting it not to leak?

If you are wondering if that is a common leak in that area, yes yes it is. But there are was to make it better like using better studs like the apr ones and a better head gasket.

It was a new head only thing used the same was the bolts.

I'm asking this because I read that when the block was cast the bolt holes aren't drilled to the proper deapth to set the bolts.

I'm wondering if this it true and since my head was decked if its not the right clearence for the bolts to seat.

I know I need new bolts just didn't see the point in getting new ones when its all going to be pulled back off once my new block is done

I was thinkin that since it was decked and the issue with the bolt holes drilled to shallow if it is 100% the bolts or should I put washer on the swap or grind the bolts 1.25mm as sugested.

yeah that has been known to happen, and have known people to put washers on or cut a little off the bolts to help. That does seem to pop up a lot actually with the bolt Bottoming out. Hence why arp studs are a must

thanks for the help man, I'll just order some cheap Felpro head bolts for the time being and worry about better ones for the swap.

Also, before you install a head make sure the block has a straight edge. if there's any difference in flatness across the block then there's a potential leak.
