Hey guys, I am going to be purchasing a 90 plymouth lazer rs turbo, fwd car. the price is right (500$) and i am mechanically inclined. My goals for the car are to eventually run in the mid to low 12s. Car is bone stock exept for a rewired pump. It is not running rightn ow as the turbo is bad, the impeller is pretty chewed up and it has some shaft play. From what i have read and talked to people, i *SHOULD* be able to get into the 12s on a 14b, i am likely going to purchase a used 14b in good condition and start from there. The car itself motorwise is in fair condition it pulled 151-150-150-151 on all cylinders, timing belt was replaced about 15k ago. I have researched but most of what i find is guys in my sitation wanting to build a 10-11sec car. I am on a slight budget for the moment, so the car does not need to be a 12 sec car right now, here is a list of what i was thinking of starting with for the money i have to drop on it asap approx 2k

used 14b
walbro 255
3in down pipe
3in exhaust (i can make my own exhaust as i have access to both pipe and pipe benders through my work so we can count this as a freebee.)
2nd gen turbo manifold ported
Some type of street disc clutch, have not researched super throughly
EGT gauge
boost gauge
oil pressure gauge
fuel pressure regulator
datalogger or dsmlink probably dsmlink

I guess im kinda stuck after this, i know i'll need a cold air intake thats not a biggy as i'll make it myself at work. I guess im looking for opinions on what i should do, or if im going about this the right way, im trying to get some supporting mods before i get a front mount big injectors and a larger turbo. is this the way to do it, or should i just get a big turbo, big front moutn big injectors DSMlink, and boost it till it blows. thanks for your time, any and all replies welcome.

If you're on a budget, then boosting it till it blows doesn't exactly fit the profile you need, now does it?

Your list of upgrades seems pretty reasonable. Check the Tech Guides here and go through all the Free - Mods and those sorta things first. Be careful when buying a used turbo off someone, too. You never know what you're in for.

in your opinion would it be best to stay with the 14b, or go to a 16g or 20g, and get hte injectors, and that sort of thing off the bat. The car is not a daily driver, just at toy. I really dont know where to start, if things get to confusing i'll throw it on the trailer and take it to AMS. thanks forhte reply

Well, I've got a '91 TSi and I've done all the free upgrades and I added an intake elbow, the MBC, and a few extras onto it just for good measure.

As far as performace is concerned, I'm buying a complete turbo upgrade kit in the next few months. It comes with a FMIC, Holset turbo, tubular manifold, external wastegate, all the piping needed, 650 injectors, a new intake pipe and filter, and all the clamps and cuplers.

The whole kit is gonna run me about $900, so it's a steal IMO. A turbo and some injectors is always good, but if you do decide to go with the turbo/injectors combination, I would spend the rest of your money on all of the supporting mods.

Have you taken a look at the build-up articles in the Tech Guide? Those might shed some light on your situation.

I found a turbo, i THINK is a 14b in realyl good shape for cheap.. its number is 49178-01400.... it also says tdo5H... is this a 14b>?? it is in EXCELLENT Shape, no shaft play.. very clean
