Hey all whats up? Just got on here! and just bought a DSM i got a 96 TSI Talon, picked it up for 3000 its got light mods on it, but i was wondering if some "expierenced" people could tell me a few thigns
1. Whats is a wastegate for?
2. I got a crushed 1st gen BOV on my 2nd gen(whats crushed?)
3. Will 97-99DSM parts bolt right on to my 96(i need a new bumper cover)
4. Anyone wanna buy a couple s10 blazer's i got a 4x4 one and a lowerider? Well i hope i can get some useful information and help from around here! the last place wasn't helpful at all!. THanks

This site will give you more information than you will ever need. I've learned a million things about my car in the short time that I've been here.

A crushed BOV will make the BOV not blow off til higher boost is achieved. It works cuz where the part of the BOV is crushed, there's a spring on the other side. By crushing that part, the spring is compressed a little bit more, so it takes more to compress it, hence the higher boost needed to make it blow-off.

A wastegate is for controlling boost. It opens up at a certain boost level to allow exhuast gas to get around the exhaust wheel of the turbo or to atmosphere. Either way, it limits the amount of exhuast gas pushing the wheel in the turbo, thereby controlling your boost level. Keeps the car from overboosting, which can break all sorts of expensive stuff.

As for the body parts, I have no idea cuz I have a 1g. Hope I helped explain some stuff for ya.

Boost is not what makes a BOV "blow off". A BOV does not blow off once a certain boost is achieved, it blows off to relieve pressure in the system when the throttle plate closes. You crush a 1g in order to create more tention on the spring so that it does not leak when higher boost levels are applied.

The idea of opening up once a certain boost level is reached is what the wastegate does. By opening a flapper (internal WG) some of exhaust gasses are released before the exhaust wheel on the turbo, allowing boost to be kept in check.

As for the 98 talon bumper, I believe it should fit your 96 just fine with no mods. I'll let someone else tell you for sure.

Would a Waste gate be a good thing to purchase? i have some stage one mods done but only a few

There's already a wastegate built into your turbo.

YES
I did this myself. Didn't need new headlamps or anything.
