Ok....Here's the deal now

After being told the engine seized up by mitsubishi...I've decided they are retarded and to f around with my car to find the real problem. Here's the history of the problem....

65k on a 98 GSX
No problems at all....until a day before I leave for canada for 45days. The hymbaric stablizer snaps. Power streering goes out and it sucks. Get it fixed that day. I leave for canada. Well my friend is looking after it and two days after I leave he goes to start the car and it doesnt start. Cranks and Cranks but doesn't catch on. Well I get back and send it to mitsu to save time. They tell me it's seized up after telling me a bunch of crap. So it gets towed back to my work and sits there for a long time. Then it doesn't do anything! No cranking, not even a click, and no power/lights/stereo. Swap the battery yesterday and after couple turns of the key it starts crankin a little. The cams move about an inch. Well I few more attempts and now the cams are moving. Kinda slow but moving. Which pretty much says...F you mitsu! Well we go and check if the fuel pump is starting up at all and making any noise. NONE!!! Well we swap the wires (oh yeah mitsu felt the urge to swap 3 of 4 of my wires with stock...leaving one ngk). I throw in some Taylor 10mms (Which are frickin huge!). Nothing different. My friend pulls out one of the wires and I try to start it and he notices there is no spark. So what therories does this leave me? Starter? Ignition Coil? Not grounded? Or could Mitsu's therory still be correct. As long as you dont say crankwalk I wont walk out to my car pack it with C4 and say F this shiznit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...but of course only post if you know what you are talking about. I hate to say this but 75% of the people on tuners just post to read themselves....

well from what youre telling me your just swapping parts without testing anything..not the smartest way to do things...but nevertheless ill try and help...although with the little information i have not sure what i can do.

I don't realy know much about the 2g...which i htink is what you have...but most should apply. Also im pretty tired right now so if something doesn't make sense just IM me on AIM or something...... Iceycoldmilk

first some questions...If you are gettin no spark in ALL plugs check #3 first

# 1 Is the crank slow?

# 2 Is there any grinding noises..comming from the starter specifically?

# 3 You check available voltage at the battery? yea its new..but good to check anyways.
If its below 12.45 then id replace that....unless you want to test if its your car thats droppin its voltage that low...let me know if its below that and ill let you know some ways.

since i don't feel like waiting for you to post ill just do this...

If the crank is slow -

Make sure all the connections and cables aren't full of corrosion and connected firmly to the starter and battery...id clean them even if they look fine.

Then get out your multimeter or voltmeter (you have one right?) and do a voltage drop test on the starter circuit....should get around .2v to .5v drop MAX, but compare to OEM specs if you have em..not sure off hand what they are for your car.

If both those turn out good...then as long as youre into replacing things...replace the starter.

If there is a grinding noise -

Your starter gear is done...get a new starter.

If both those are good your engine could be siezing up.
Check your oil..alhtough i hope thats the first thing you did.

Check the resistance of the spark plug wires.
Check the resistance of the spark plugs.

Both should have rather high resistance.

if all that seems to check out good just IM me cause this is soo much typing.

Go back to the basics, spark, fuel, timing. If you have all 3 it will start, missing one and it wont start. Let us know what it turns out to be.

Well finally some progress has been made... Dan (Sparkly Black 2g), Rich (Incapacitated Maroon GSX), Phil (Red GSX hasn't made it to sacdsm), and I made some good and bad discoveries. Things we did...

1. Attempted Push Start...
-Nope
2. Datalogger Reading
-OH CRAP! CAM ANGLE SENSOR
-Reading
3. Attempted Manually Moving Crank...
-I thought it was easy to move...Dan thought it should of been easier. CRAP once again.
4. Removed Valve Cover
-WHAT THE FUDGE!!! LIFTERS EVERYWHERE and some crazy gunk.
Valve Cover Findings
5. Removed Timing Belt Cover
-Hmmm Well that might of cause the crank to act a little stuck
Timming Belt Cover
6. Checked Crank Angle Sensor
-Well the fact that it's in peices might cause an error.
Crank Angle Sensor

So the new plan....As of now.
New Timing Belt Kit- All the the belts need to go
1stGen CAM Angle Sensor- Replace the Crank Angle Sensor

Now that seems not that bad compared to what it could of been. I'm still doubtful that it would be that easy. I'll remain that way until it's running. Now if you look at the lifters picture you might see that one or two of the springs are lower than the others. Possible new head in order. Question though...How would all but on lifter come off with no visible damage to the camshaft? Could mitsubishi of forgoten to reassemble my stuff? I'm going to call them tomorrow and do some interrogating cause they left my battery unattached and not locked down and replaced 3 of 4 of my ngk spark plug wires with stock. ANY THOUGHTS?

Well I got a reply from Martin from Taboo Speed Shop and he backed up a therory.

A)Rocker arms
-Bent Valves
B) Crank Angle Sensor
-Most likly destroyed by balancer belt
C)Balancer Belt probably also threw off timing hence bent valves

So the next step is to remove the oil pan...check the crank for end play. If all is good all I should have to worry about is a new head. Sucks but not the worst thing that could happen. Crappy thing is I could of gotten a ported and polished 1g head w/ oversized valves for like 400 this morning but I woke up too late to bid on it.
