This weekend their was an Autox practice Saturday and event 1 Sunday.

Saturday's goal was to scrub the tires of that winter rot and try to get some stick out of those 2 year old 275 V710s, but the day turned out to be a battle with oversteer. The back end just would not stay planted at all during transitions. I knew from last year I was still a bit stiff in the back and with the snappy oversteer it was all but impossible to have confidence driving the car hard. I couldn't manage to put down a single fast run cause it was just too hard to maintain.

On a good note though, we got the tire pressures really close as far as roll over goes and they were surprisingly low. 22psi up front and 18psi in the back.

Saturday night I decided to try disconnecting my rear bar to keep the back in check and see if it leads to too understeer.

Sunday's event somehow ended up fairly dry and my Co-driver took the first run. Watching it, it seemed to kick the back out just a touch but looked pretty controllable. Chris said it felt pretty planted but had a touch of power oversteer . I decided to just make a nice smooth run to see how the car felt and damn! Removing the sway bar had a much larger effect than I had anticipated. The back end became beautifully controllable. Slight corner entry oversteer when trail braking which is exactly what I wanted. Other than that it didn't go anywhere.

The other difference though, now I could put the power down. Since the rear bar effects how much the front inside wheel lifts and now their wasn't anything, all the sudden pulling out of corners on power was amazing. Half way through the corner I start feeding in power and get to full throttle by corner exit and I was having almost no power understeer. The car just pulled out of the corners.

On my 2nd run I tried pushing harder and it seemed I wasn't coming anywhere near the limits of the car and I was now 0.1sec behind the 1st place guy.

I tried to overdrive the car on the third run knowing I had decent time already and crap, I'm still not driving the car at the limit but holy #### it was fast. Never has it had this combo of grip, turn in, balance, and traction. Now its to the point where It feels like I'm going way to fast but I turn the wheel and car dives in like I'm doing half the speed.

The 2.4l with the Evo3 at 20psi and the cyclone manifold switching over at 2800rpms is another amazing combination. On street tires and 25psi I'm having 2nd gear traction problems. I cant think of a single corner I had lag. On the tightest corner by the time I got to full throttle I had full boost.

Not bad for a 3200lb car and a great way to start the season.

Nice! I can't wait until I get started for the season. Any pics?

Nice job Dallas. Its always nice when the setup comes together over a weekend and you enjoy driving the car.

Dallas, you'll need to update your profile to reflect the wheel/tire size combo you're using. I'm sure people will be asking since it's not posted in there. Nice pics! maybe you can post some in your gallery here on the site so people don't have to sift through your myspace pages to find them?

Ill try to get things updated and some of the good pictures loaded today sometime.

Wow the idea of a 2.4 with a Evo III turbo and (a working) Cyclone intake manifold just sounds crazy. I can't imagen the low end torque that thing must have.:hellyeah:

Its pretty rad, full boost at something like 2500-2700 rpms but positive pressure around 1700. Then it pulls to 7500 like a train. If I had to bench race it, Id say it would pull 117-120mph in the 1/4.

Heres a few of my favorite pics from this weekend. The rest are on my myspace untill I can figure out how I want to host them otherwise.

Nice setup. I've always wanted to build that exact drivetrain if I stuck with the dsm although I probably would've went with a 285/30-18. If you're having traction issues in 2nd with V710's or AS303's or similar then you're probably fine with the 275/40's as they'll give you a little more mph on the straights.

Thank. Im just getting the car back together from replacing both front hubs...5years of Auto-x really does a number on them :hmm:. I kinda wish I went with the 285s on an 18, but this seems to work as is and 18s would just make my stock brakes look even worse.

I have another autox this weekend, and Im still running the 450lb/in springs in the rear with no sway bar. This event is probably gonna be wet so less rear roll will be good. I dont think Ill do as well though cause the STi's usually have a significant advantage putting the power down in the wet.

Also, I get to give these things a try :thumb:

Its all the same stuff I was running before, I just made my own upper hats and added the helper spring.

Im surprised the shocks are still alive cause Ive been driving it for 2 years with the 700s and for 3 years with 550s. So far they havent started leaking so Im assuming their still working.
