Some people like their car and would like to build and dont have the money to buy a gsx or gst which is impossible to find for a fair price anyway. Why waste money on an engine most people think is a piece of sh!t If anyone has done this swap please tell me what you have done and how it turned out. Please dont be a d!ck about it.. :banghead: thanks

I believe I have seen one guy tackle this swap. Best be good with welding and have another gsx to get the mounts from. You actually have to cut them out of the engine bay. Also I believe you must make it so the transmission doesn't hit the frame rail.

To much custom fab work required. Unless your very handy in the garage and have the equipment to do it yourself, the end cost will be greater then purchasing a gsx outright in the first place.

Anything is possible just dont expect it to be easy or cheap.

The only 420a to 4g63 swap that isn't a total pain in the ass to do..Would be an evo 4+engine...

But still your looking at money for the engine and tranny..Then hours of mounting...

So say it cost you 2 grand for evo 8 engine and tranny..Why not take that 2 grand and buy a gst or gsx that needs some work..

Didn't some guy just put a SRT-4 engine in a 420a Eclipse? This could be an option if you had a SRT-4 for donor.

Alright i see what your saying. Im still learning and im just trying to get some knowledge but where are the frame rails. Those are the bars that line the underside of the car right? why the heck didnt they make it so you can swap the engine without any major modification :banghead:

The main problem I see is, in order to do the swap you destroy a gst or gsx. Now can anyone tell me why in the world you would wanna do that. Just use that donor car fix it up and you got a sick gst or gsx, makes more sense to me.

If you can afford the shell to use as a donor to do such a swap and the necessary parts to do so than you can certainly afford to buy a decent turbo with a good title for a few hundred dollars. Also you won't have to pay someone thousands of dollars to cut and weld the pieces together and get it straight. It will cost you more to do than it would cost you to buy a running car.

Here is a good rundown of what all is required to do this

Lower frame rails
Inner fender/strut tower assembly
subframe
front to rear crossmember
body harness
engine harness
ecu
electrical components
everything on firewall
exhaust
fuel lines
axles
power steering pump and lines
radiator
intercooler and piping
engine
transmission
shifter cables
clutch slave and fork
clutch
flywheel
alternator
hoses
belts

there will be more to it, that is just off the top of my head right now. Imagine tracking down all those parts when you get 90 percent of them when you but a shell.

I cant find them local and they are to expensive. Id rather buy a wrecked one and take the engine and front end and throw it in mine

Because the engines are backwards to each other. One was designed by an american motors company, another by a japanese motors company. Who can really say why the locate the tranmission on opposite ends of the engine bay.

Your going need basically a whole car. Engine, trans, axles, engine mounts, cut the engine mount brackets out, switch and weld in ones from the donor car. Wire harness, ecu. Its just not feasible.

Here is a better idea.

There is no throwing it together, it is a major structural job to do this, and it needs to be done on a frame jig to ensure that it is straight. Imagine taking off the fenders and bumpers and than cutting off the everything from the firewall and welding that on from another car. I am not sure that you know what this involves.

Damn so basically i should just buy a gst if i can find one. It took forever to get my rs and i wish it had some potential. I wish Crysler DSM sh!t made a good engine and didnt make it so hard to hook my car up. My point is that i was hoping to make 200 hp with $1000 and that is not possible with an RS with the 420a..... :banghead: but if i had the 4g63 and a few bolt ons i will have plenty of power. Im so pissed what a waste of money.. RS = piece of sh!t OMG

there are places that sell front clips (complete front ends from firewall and up) so i could just take one of those and weld it onto mine (properly of course) im trying to make a poor mans GST without spending 5k to get a GST!!! :banghead:

Yeah it just seems like it will take forever... how are the 1gs?? they seem pretty quick but overall 2g is a little better right? just asking your opinion... since they are much more affordable

You could do that, but it will cost you more than buying a running car. You can buy running 2g's that need a little cosmetic work all day long for 2500-3000. As far as 1g and 2g, the 1g is built WAY better than the 2g. IT is a lot more solid car with less overall problems.

The way you're trying to do this it'll cost even more than to just buy a gst.

5K? I haven't paid anywhere near that for any of my DSM's and they've all been AWD aside from my GF's GST spyder.

Alright i will look around. I been looking on craigslist here in atlanta and i cant find shit. a guy was selling a gsx (supposedly) for 8k and it had a horrible mate paint job. I will look on this forum's classifieds. Also you AWD guys.. hows the handling? can you guy still drive pretty good on the turns with that extra weight?

I bought my 1995 Talon TSi AWD for $2,600. I chose to repaint it and all sorts of things. After the day is over, I could have left it looking like hell and have just done repairs. In the end it probably would have cost MAYBE $3,500. You could get a TSi AWD or GSX for that price though. One just has to take the time to look around.

Waste.. 2.4L + TINY TD04 turbo = no traction at all.

:hmm: im starting to understand. so be honest with me guys. i bought a clean rs (5 speed) for $1450. did i waste my money? my car has no potential it seems like but yeah atleast i have a car. hell i had an ls integra and it had 10x the potential this car has. :banghead: i guess i will have to save up and i sure hope someone will buy my rs by the time i have the money for a gst or gsx.. even a talon tsi

yeah down in the south especially GA everyone charges way to much money for their shit!! alright well for now im stuck with it. probably just going to throw a CAI and upgrade the exhaust and keep it as my DD. im still mad though LOL my friends talked me into buying it and he drives a 3G GTS.. oh well DSM FML :banghead:
