hi all,

at october 2008 i bought me an eclipse 2G. Now we are august 2008 and i have driven my car for a max of 3 months for the rest of the time my car was standing there because the engine is/was broke. Now i gonna tell the story: i bought my car and went home. After 6 days of drove it the engine broke. what was the problem: i heard somthing knocking. after asking around they told me it was the crackshaft, its bearing turned a quarter. because of that the crackshaft had a litle space from a few millimeters and thats why he was knocking. My car was repaired at the end of february. i drove it for around 2 months and guess what: the engine knock again. what was the problem now: the same as what i had last time but now it was the bearing of the balance shaft. now at this moment the engine is still broke (havent repaired it because in belgium its hard to find an engine like the). My question is does he gonna break again because i know a friend who had a landrover freelander, he told me that the type of car had a disease with its engines. does the eclipse also has that problem that the engine always damages because i have found a new engine but if the engine damages again i don't gonna spend my money on it (if u understand what i mean)

thanks for listing/reading (srr for the write errors i'm from belgium dutch speaking)

Did they just roll a set of bearings in it when it started knocking or did you do a rebuild?? Search for crankwalk and you will get your answer, I believe you may have it.

More than likely, whoever fixed your car just slapped some bearings on your car, without checking for damage on the crank. The car then spun another bearing, due to the damage caused before. Then again it can also be the balance shaft, or might not even be in the bottom end. If it is, just get a bs elimination kit and never worry about again, and crankwalk is the last thing you should worry about.

Yeah because 7-bolts are great.

7 bolts have a bad rap for engine failure and for the most part it is true, but it is worth rebuilding if you do your resurch and buy quality parts for the rebuild. your other option would be to source a good 6 bolt and do the 6-bolt conversion, there is some much info on this conversion on here it's not even funny. i helped my brother do this and his car has run great since, of course we built his engine and used performance parts and used a really good machinist for the machine work.

hi all,

thx for the help but what is the difference between a 6 and 7 bolt? if i replace parts what do i have to do with the scratches i shall have because the bearings turned (logicly) it will make a scratch in the engine. And if i will replace the parts for repairing it, i will upgrade the engine for more hp then what i have now, what shuld i replace and i don't have a turbo and i want to put one on it, what i all need to buy for it but the engine needs to look like it was before because here in belgium you can't do with your car what u want :s, every year we need to go to a testing center, they look to your car and test for example the bracks, the CO2, they watch for the hight of your car if its to low you need to raise your car, they pop the hood to watch to your chasis number and then they can see the engine. if it is possible to give me a list with the parts i need it would be great

the engines that have been in the car i bought from someone who sold it here in belgium so i don't know what they have done with it

thx all

Scratch in engine?? You better do some serious research if you are going to rebuild the motor on your own, otherwise just see if you can find another motor at a junkyard.

They are called 6-bolt 7-bolts because of the number of bolts on the flywheel. This is obviously not the only difference though. *Inserts reference to do research*
