Is it number 7 you are talking about? Thats the alternator tensioner/brace.

That would be on your water pump then. Chances are the pully was not tight on the water pump, it has 4 bolts. Or the bearing in the water pump is bad, but if thats the case you would most likely be losing coolant everywhere in that area and you should be able to wiggle the water pump with the pulley bolts on to. There are two pulleys bolted onto the water pump. #5 and #6, The inner pulley runs the power steering pump. The outter runs the alternator and off the crankshafts harmonic balancer.

Right above the alternator is your power steering pully. Its the smallest pulley you can see. If thats not it please tell me a perspective of where it is or take a picture.

I believe you may be talking about the water pump pulley causing the belt to fall off. Make sure you check the pulley for a wobble. I have had all my belts fall off on my old talon because of a shot water pump.

I bet he's referring to the drive belt idler/tensioner pulley not shown in that diagram. Sometimes that long bolt(for alternator) will sheer off at one end and allow the alternator to move, throwing the belt off. Check for proper belt tension and broken alternator bolt(s).

A failed water pump can cause its pulley to come loose, in very rare cases the water pump can break where the pulley connects to causing you to totally lose the pulley as well.

Refer to this picture. https://secure.buschurracing.com/catalog/images/dsm-waterpump-cart.JPG

Where the four bolt holes are is where the water pump attaches to. That whole thing has a chance of breaking off however its a small chance. The most likely problem is it breaks and wobbles terribly to the point where the belt can no longer stay on.

The waterpump pulley is a 2 piece pully with a key on it. 4 bolts hold it on the pump(10mm)

EDIT: the back pulley turns the PS and the front is the pulley that gets turned by the crank.

Ahh crap that sucks the pulley has a lot of play in it so I change the whole water pump to fix my problem

Yes, and do your timing belt while you are at it. Unless you enjoy your pistons slapping your valves resulting in a rebuilt top and bottom end.

I should add that you should use the VFAQ write up to do it. To avoid pulling the motor you are going to want to support motor by the oil pan with a good jack and a flat peice of wood that will cover the majority of the oil pan. Then remove the right side motor mount with the jack supporting the motor. After it is removed jack up the motor until the area you are wornibg on is easily accessed. To stop the timing gears from moving put a bolt in the teeth of the gears, put a nut on the end to jam it from both the top and the bottom.

Use a OEM tensioner as well. If you can't afford that then sell the car because it is not for you.

The pulley with just the belt on a little bit above and to the right of the alternator is the loose pully can I not just replace that
