Right now i am getting no boost at all and no idle surge. I have tried searching and searching, but have had no luck. I have 20' on the vacuum gauge at idle. The car has been sitting for some months because I had high oil pressure problem. Fixed that and now it cranks and runs smooth but no boost at all. I tried a boost leak test at the throttle and turbo and it still leaks at the same spot. I can hear air rushing around the bottom left part of the valve cover. Pulled it off to see if i could see something wrong with the valve stem seal, but I couldn't see anything I have already tried cleaning the EGR and replacing the PCV because i read that those might leak too. I did a compression test and from left to right its 150, 145, 140,140. I see that its getting close to needing a rebuild. The turbo spins freely and i looked at the blades and don't have any damage to them. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look next or recheck?? On the boost test i cannot build any pressure at all no matter where i turn the engine too. Thanks

Yeah I tried to do the test but it wont build any boost at all. It just keeps rushing out at left side of valve cover somewhere.

anteversion & Robertm1212GST :
I just checked the arm and its sitting in the SE position and its on there tight and has the pin in too.

I was getting boost before i let it sit most of the winter

with all the infos that you have mentionned, it cannot be anything else than a major leak between the turbo and the throttle body. check all the hoses and clamps in this area and find the leak... maybe check your intercooler too

REALLY INTRESTED IN WHAT INFO U COULD GET I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM JUST DID A 6 BOLT SWAP ON A 98 GST RAN GOOD FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN NO BOOST DON'T EVEN GET PASSED 8 OR 9 PSI AND IT STARTS SPITTING AND POPING THEY TOLD ME PLUGS AND WIRES ALSO THE O2 SENSOR BUT STILL NOT SURE WHAT TO TRY???? PLEASE HELP:banghead:

anteversion: I have checked these over and over and still am. I sprayed down the intercooler real good and no bubble and listened for air coming from in between the fins and nothing. Sprayed down all the hoses real good. I bought one of those check valves to help the PCV and still no boost. I am thinking its somewhere inside.

Bluefire16: Which seals in the head would you be referring to. You might be right sense I can still hear air from the inside of the valve cover and it seems to be the loudest by the thermo valve where you put coolant in at. I take the cap off there to see if any bubbles and nothing.

CJTurbo: I didn't turn down the boost for any reason.

ilco187: I checked it just now and air is coming out the turbo outlet.

also did you check the BOV take it off and push the middle it could have a weak or bad spring or not sealing/seating right and also take the down pipe off to see if the waste gate flapper is not broke or damaged like a piece missing, if you are internally gated

Ok I checked over everything again and i am sorry. I had a leak at the TVV hoses and fixed all that up and tried to boost test again. Now i can get boost to build to 7psi (using bike pump) when i test at the TB, but it doesnt hold more than 2 seconds. Then i switch to the turbo inlet and nothing at all. Just whooosh sound from the inside of the engine fully warm . Tried it with the cigarette lighter tire pump and still nothing. I put plastic wrap around the tail pipe and taped it off to see it it was going out that way but nothing. When driving it wound go over 1 psi.

ilco187: I will go out and look again and take some pictures to post up later. Maybe you all can see something i am missing.

I'm having the same problem minus the air sound from the valve cover. I just rebuilt the whole engine with stock internals. I get 20 on the vac but when I rev the engine it doesn't even get to the boost part of the gauge.
I let it set since December and finally started it today and that's when I found that problem.
Even the stock gauge wont move past vac

this sounds just like the problem i am having too, except im getting a bit of white smoke out of my exhaust :/ any help is appreciated

ok well I've been messing with alot of stuff and then capped everything off. Warmed up the car then took that bike pump and started pumping like a mad man and now i can hear bubbling from the oil pan. !DANG!

Well the car is sitting at a shop i know waiting on a leakdown test again. When i first cranked the car up it was idling ok right at 900rpms. Then after about 2 miles or so I noticed when i was at the LONG stop light it was at 900 rpm then slowly goes down to 400 and catches itself then slowly goes right back up to 900 and kept doing it. The only thing i did was remove all the vacuum lines following the taboo guide. I didnt think this was the idle surge seeing how most of them go up instead of down.Any ideas???

to me sounds like a bad wastegate. Can you pull the wastegate open/closed by hand? hope it's something simple like that and you get to the bottom of it.
