sup guys, im looking for a hvlp gun for my air compressor but all the guns i look at say something like 5scfm @ 40 psi. and all sorts of different numbers like this at different psi's. my question is my compressor is rated at 5.1 scfm at 90 psi. how do i know how much cfm my compressor is at 40 psi and such?

Does it matter?
If your compressor does 5 cfm @ 90 and the gun needs 5 cfm @ 40 you know your compressor can do that. I would have to guess it's between 6 and 7 cfm at 40 psi but not sure.

I have this one. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=43430 I use it for spraying gel coat which is a bit different than paint but my girlfriend used it to paint her car and it worked well. This one is rated 9 to 14 cfm at 15 to 50 psi. I am pretty sure your compressor won't have trouble with either gun at least on smaller projects at full force for extended periods it could stress the compressor. How big is the air tank on your compressor?
This 5.6 cfm compressor at 90 is rated 7.2 at 40 psi. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=90234

Here's another so it seems pretty standard. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=90385

If there is a harbor freight near you I would get that gun posted above, take it home turn it up to full pressure and see how your compressor does, if you think it's fine but want the other one on ebay or if it won't work take it back.

i have the 5.5 hp 33 gallon husky compressor. its rated at 5.1 cfm at 90 psi. the one that homedepot sells.
