AGP Tune 'n Track Results (Numbers Inside)

Hey did any of you guy get the water cooled center section? I know it is available from AGP if you ask for it.

Oh and Pete you never answered my question about the dyno and what happened.

My apologies in not responding until now .. I saw the thread a few times at work but didn't have a chance to write any informative reponses to some of the questions asked of me.

For those of you with well wishes, thank you very much. I think it speaks volumes about the ability for anyone to do it. I'd just like to thank AGP (and friends) for countless hours of help. Who knew 3310 lbs. could go so fast...

DCJ98GST,

Ya, load turned out to be a quite a consideration during the dyno use. It was actually pretty funny ... previously the dyno had a GMC Denali with a supercharger on it, so I think originally they made no driveline loss corrections and it said something like 490 whp - yeah right!

After that, we were continually changing load on the rollers and I could feel the rolling resistance changing as we brought the car to speed. To be extremely honest, I'm not sure exactly why the numbers seem to come on so late .. but I can tell you it wasn't even 4K before the car felt like it was gonna jump off the rollers!!! Maybe someone with more dyno experience can comment on the skew seen on the chart as any help would be appreciated.

As for the water cooled section, I believe that is part of the BB option. If you go conventional bearing your only option will be oil fed. Again, I defer to those you who can chime in and help. Thanks.

Ben K,

Lets just work on one thing at a time alright (j/k)? I was too busy making sure I didn't screw up too badly in front of all those people.

:: NOTE TO SELF - Work on Reaction Time::

FastRthenU,

Looks like all has been decided, good call with the .63 A/R ... you won't be disappointed. I sure wasn't disappointed in the .63 A/R after riding in Unreal's car - incredible!

UndergroundR32,

Sorry, you didn't miss anything. I actually omitted it. Yes, the only gas my car will see on such occasions is VP C16. I want that definite "safety blanket" that this gas provides when trying to go fast.

To answer any questions regarding 91 pump gas, the car was driven off the street onto the track in Tucson the weekend before a went consistent 12.8s at 18 psi with baseline street tuning. So I hope I'm not seen as slouch in that department when speaking of 91 octane tuning.

Cucumber,

As Kevin from AGP calls it, I'm pretty happy with my "Rattle Can" results on the valve cover. It was just too smeared in its original silver finish to NOT paint it.

Keep the questions coming, I'd like to help as much as possible...

My L2R is water cooled.

All ball bearing turbos are water cooled.

Edit: Well, all Garret GT series ball bearings are watercooled

Nice write-up Pete. Did the dyno shop have that problem w/all the other cars or was it just the day/night you went?

And those 2 days ended any thoughts of a re-match roll style that was in my head before.

About the 57trim/.63. A local guy just switched over to this setup from his .48. He doesnt get spool until ~4300, and ~4000 on a .48. Personaly I didnt notice any more lag on respools between gears, but havent had a chance to feel the car on more boost to compare each for topend power.

About the race w/Ari. I'm sure it had alot to do w/a 1st time racing in a "real" event against the runner up from last years street tire class. I got a real nice view of the race and Pete's car shot out the hole like a scud, for that 1 second my brain was thinking he's catching him. Then reality kicked in.

Now if only Shepard would ever come to Arizona...

Hell yeah!!! His launch was bad ass!!! The back just squated and left the line like a bat out of hell!!!

It was also funny to see Pete with his regular street radials just stroll around the burn-out box and stage while Ari did his big smokey burn out... I guess you just had to be there...:thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Well, for those that may be interested here's a video of my first and only qualifying pass of the day since my clutch was on the 'outs' .. I'm still looking for the 11.9 pass on video.

Brief Description - I get OWNED by a friend's Twin Turbo Stealth ... note, listen for my clutch slipping its way down the track. ACT 2600 is on its way baby!

This Just In...

Larry, we've discovered some video that makes my car look even slower. The link below shows not only the previously posted 12.6 run against the Stealth (from a different angle) but also my 11.918 run against IDRC points leader Ari Yallon - Yikes!

www.smmotorsports.org/vids ... please follow the link, and right click and select "Save As" for the appropriate videos (2 of them).

Oh well ... it would have been nice to win a race that weekend but I guess I can't have my cake and eat it too. At least I went 11s.

Once again, thanks for the well wishes.

I had to come in here and say whats up since everyone else made an appearance too :) I shot Petes run against Yallon :D IDRC was a pretty good time this year, maybe at the next IDRC(October) Unreal, L2RTSI, SpoolinSpyder(MLopez), Hater, myself and a bunch of other AZ guys will be there to actually run our cars as we've now got quite a large group of DSMers in AZ between Tucson and Phoenix ;)

:dsm:

My burning question is this: How in the hell can you guys have that many modifications and still basically a stock clutch? "I could have gone faster, but my clutch was slipping...." That phrase makes me CRINGE. I swear, even if my clutch was slipping, I wouldn't say anything, because I've heard so many dumb riceboys use that excuse.

Anyway, GREAT numbers, and a very thorough and informative review. That sounds like a great kit from AGP.

The fact that you ran a 11 second time slip with a slipping clutch, yet people are still saying a .48 A/R housing isn't enough..... it makes me laugh. Do people not realize that is faster than a well-tuned Viper? How fast do you people want to go? Warp 9? (I take that back... stupid question)

:D

This car will be coming back out again shortly with a few little changes, including a real clutch, and a good way of sealing the head to the block. I'll let Pete fill in the blanks. Now if we can get the weather to stay under 100 at night, we might see it back at the track soon.

Depends if I want to go over and finish it for him :)

Its ready to start, just needs me to turn the key.

MaineDSM, you have a great point. After reading your post I could do nothing but shake my head in agreement. It's silly, huh?

BOY...

BUT, as all riceboys do, I have an excuse. To be honest, I was coming off a horrible experience with a Cluster Masters setup which resulted in a lack of confidence in any true aftermarket clutch with the associated high price tag. So, running a 16G at the time and having heard of cars going mid 12s on OEM rated LUK clutches I decided to sink a whopping $163 dollars w/ shipping into www.dialaclutch.com and have one shipped to my door.

After the install, a bigger turbo, and roughly 35 mid 12 second passes the clutch still performed like a champ */ just don't slip it too much /*. It wasn't until I broke the 12.6 barrier that the clutch gave up on me - that dyno session didn't help either!

So, after making a couple passes that weekend at IDRC ... everyone's words rung true "That clutch cannot hold that turbo" and here we are today.

To update, :: I'll leave out any riceboy estimations based on bench racing for the readers' benefit:: I'll say the car has since received a ACT 2600, ARP head studs, and a Tevenor approved Magnus Intake Manifold ... I'm just hoping it goes faster than before.

Of course, I'll be sure to update you all once someone turns the key - and I run another time in it. Thanks.

Please keep us updated. I have almost the same car as you, except for the turbo...

11's on pump or you're a chump:D Pete...

And whoever was bitching about having mods and a "stockish" clutch... Any 11.xx ET on a $163 to your door clutch. Nothing riceboy about that, I call that a savy shopper. The LUK isnt as weak as you think it is. GSX made ~370whp that was clutch limited, ran some mid 12's and then an 11.9. Mlopez on this board also lays down ~377whp on an ACT2100, that clutch took one weekend at that power and took a shit.

Both now have 2600's.
