So been doing some searching for other wasted spark applications and found some that might fit our application but wanted to get some other imput. My goal is to reduce the size and location of the coils without losing power output. Thought about the EVO setup, but heard those guy switch to DSM coils. The COP setup is pretty but not practical.
Found this one but don't know the size. 034 High Output 4-Cyl Waste Spark Coil - 034 MOTORSPORT
DELPHI coils
Delphi Ignition Coils
I found this setup and like the coil setup but don't know the coil manufacture.

And then theres FORD's EDIS setup
ACCEL Ignition :: Product Details
which from my understanding is the same as wasted spark.
Any other input would be nice.

Did you read the Spark Tech thread in the Vendor announcements section?

They're selling a new set up.

The vendor announcement states the system is compatible with standalones only. More technical savvy people would be able to tell that just by seeing sequential in the title.

I would just get a CDI and run a COP. That is the way to go, short of a standalone and sequential!

The reviews have been based off running them on a stock setup, which doesn't charge the COP because the dwell is all messed up. I see you have DSMLink, so if it was me, I would get rid of the power transistor and just use the outputs from the ECU to fire the Dynatek, and set the dwell to as small as you can, and run COP on it.

gixrman,

I know you have a good handle on what you're doing, probably above most. Adn although i am with you on the downfalls of the COP setup running in wastespark, I think it woud suffice with a CDI backing it up, and if you already had it and DIDN't have any issues, then i say run it. I'd say setup proper;y, even in wastespark, that with a CDI and some good coild you shouldbe able to run just as much as the stock coil setup troublefree and probably a little more so if setup properly with the correct gauge wires and keeping them short for good energy transfer

GOtcha... great rule to live by, and i always thought some one was insulting me when i was young and the old guys were telling me this (thought i was the "stupid" LOL like they were telling me directly "keep is simple stupid (you)" LOL

as for coils, man, i'm more prone to lean towards a CDI box before a coil change... as it stands our coils have a dwell tiem of 3.5ms and without something to change the dwell for whatever coil you run performance may suffer (iirc you have AEM EMS???)

I wouls just fab up a nice small bracket from aluminum to use the stock coils (they are tiny once you take them off the bracket) i actually have a bracket you can have if interested... let me know and i'll shoot a pic if ya want, it's just flat AL plate with holes for teh coils and their bolts, but still smaller and sleeker than the OEM units

Does Link not have a dwell adjustment? And boxes like the Dynatek have a little black box that does something magical and mess with dwell times. It must be magical because I tried to wire my Dynatek right to the ECU, but it would backfire and sputter. Like the timing was WAY off. Wired it with their harness and it worked.

Those GM coils are HUGE. And what is the interface module? I was looking at these coils and modules a while back, and I was wondering if the module was just a pass-through for use with a CDI. I know the stock GM modules are igniters...just wondering about the MSD ones.

Found this link to stock coil output. Stealth 316 - Ignition Coils

MSD output is a little less but it looks like it would recharge faster. Not sure if that would overheat the ignition module or not. I think you need the module to wire it because the coils just have two female connections on them.

The coil pictured in the link above from vitesse racing looks like a MSD coil for 420A engines.

I wish someone would find out how many windings the stock coils have.

And that article is OK, but still not exact. From what I have measured the ECU uses 12v to fire the PTU, not 3v. And the ECU fires the PTU, and the PTU keeps the coil charged. Also it is a lot more than 12v going to the coils. They can give you little shock on the primary side.
