Ok this is my first thread on here....I dont even know if it should be in engine performance or extreme tuner forum but here we go....I am running an MSD DIS-2 ignition....I love it but I have burned up my second coilpack....anyone else with an MSD DIS-2 have this problem?....the second one I went and got out of a junkyard out of a 92 GSX for like 10 bucks....got the car running for like 8 months wahoo:p ....but anyways I am back to where I was before....I would hate to buy a brand new one from dsmmotorsport.com for like $169 bucks or something and fry another one cause the MSD is too much for it......anyone ever try the GM DIS 2 tower coilpacks from JEGS or SUMMIT?....they are only like $65 bucks for two of them and they are good for 45,000 volts....seem like they work just like some of the big guys who run motorcycle coils with a crane cams DIS ignition box.....just wondering if anyone has any ideas or has tryed it.....please dont flame me for acting dumb(I only have 5 years experience with DSM's)....any help would be greatly appreciated......:dsm: forever

This IS the advanced tech section, and putting different coils on is advanced, but shouldn't be that extreme. So I think this is the right section for this post. Its a lot more appropriate than many of the posts that find there way here.

Assuming you didn't do something really screwy wiring it all up, the reason why your other coils are dying is that you replaced one old coil, with another old coil. An MSD box shouldn't be enough to kill our coils by itself. If you can find a slightly newer used coil, it should last longer than 8 months for $10. Other than that, many of the ones summit and jegs sell are designed to work with either CDI or inductive ignitions. So with a little more wiring work, they should work fine in this application with an MSD ignition. I wouldn't just toss them on a DSM with a stock ignition though.
