MSD DIS-2

This is a dumb question but, when you connect the MSD DIS-2 to power (battery) doesn't the red light suppose to come on even if it is not wired to the ignition. I got this from a friend and I don't know if it works or not. I have read that ppl have had problem with them.

Anybody??? What about the crane system? How is that wired? Do you need a tach adapter?

The red led only comes on when the system makes a spark so it will only be on when the car is running.
