Sherwin-Williams makes paint for autos? How much paint does it take to paint a car?

My car is painted with Sherwin-Williams. I love the color but the clear coat is CRAP! It is chipping off the entire car. The shop I had it done at has a lifetime warranty so as soon as I get the beater running good, I'm taking the damn thing back. I don't believe it's any cheaper. My supplies were $970 for a 3 stage pearl.

cause i paint cars for the king of england that cost $100,000 all the time, i can't believe anybody would pay less than $1000 for a paint job.

how about people with mortgages,and kids, and other things to spend money on than their car...

And how about people with morgages, and kids, and other things and a "King of England paint job". Some people have what you have and then some.....

I cant figure out if you're jealous or if you're just looking for sympathy.....

Sorry to revive an old thread but I didnt want to start a new one. I you do a color change on your car do they paint the engine compartment also? Or do they leave that its original color? And if they do paint the compartment, how do they go about painting under the hood without getting paint on stuff, and getting all the places?

The motor would have to be pulled. Everything. And expect to pay a lot of money if you want to get your engine bay done if not doing it yourself.

look in my gallery, i painted my car myself, cost me about $700 in JUST materials. I also painted door jams and most of the engine compartment.

Some of you guys dont pay that much for paint. The place im having repaint just the left side of the car cuse of a dent is charging about 1700, thats just the left door and quater pannels. I dont even know if thats including the doorjams or what not. They also quoted me around the same for doing the front and rear bumpers just in case. So total for just the front and rear bumpers pluse the left side of the car would cost 3400. They said they needed to recondition my front bumper or something. I unno though, i have seen their work and its flawless so maybe the price is worth it.

I helped build a pretty badass civic once (yes, it was actually fast). It was custom painted and a year later we were ready to do a motor swap. Once we pulled the engine, we took it to a shop and they painted the entire engine bay to match the rest of the car. They painted every brake hose and every bracket. Then we swapped a new motor in it.

You might be able to paint some parts of the engine bay just by removing small parts, but to get it perfect, you'll need to pull the whole motor.

$1700 just to paint two bumpers?!?!?!?! That's outrageous! I usually pay about $200 everytime I have my bumper repainted (which is twice every year). Sounds like that place is just real expensive or they're just hosing you; or both. I personally wouldn't pay those prices......

In most cases. The Honda over at http://stagedracing.com had his engine in. The guy who painted it had a bunch of special guns and got underneath everything. Looks awesome.

You can't judge a paint job when it has just been done. I'd give it some time.

Thats true, but hopefully it will last awhile and if it doesn't, it came with a two year warranty. So I could get it fixed if I had too.

Pull the motor Cant they screw up your entire setup if they screw up in the least!? I dont really trust anyone when it comes to my car (even though right now its stock). Guess I leave it another color or just try to get the visual spots painted.

Well it might be cuse of the reconditioning of the front bumper that makes it expensive cuse it has a weird bend on the underside like it got hooked on something while backing up.
