I did some searching and haven't found much about the AFC Neo and wanted to know if there is any opinions out there about it. I need something to tune for either 750 or 880cc injectors. I am well aware that the SAFC won't tune the 750cc injectors very well, (so if I get the SAFC I might be stick with 650cc), but I haven't heard anyone talk about the high end of injector size for the Neo.
Extreme PSI has the package deal for the fuel pump, injectors and Neo and as a package it's pretty good.
I have a 99 so Link is to far out of the budget (link plus EPROM ECU...), and I was ecstatic about flashing the ECU but I have the 99 GSX with the white face gauges that has the plastic ECU that isn't on the compatible list.

So what is the size limit of injectors for the Neo and how well/easy does it tune?

What does you having a 99 have to do with you not being able to afford link? Anyways.. SAFC sucks.. It just tricks your ECU.. Save your money. Buy ECMlink.

i know from the 3000gt that the neos were not working properly due to an issue with how they read karman off the maf. they came out with a patch but im not sure what to current firmware is. the patch happened about 2 years ago so if its a new unit it should be fine

New units or reflashed ones (you send it to them and they fix it, I've done it) work for the neo. You can also buy a reflash connector and run a reflashed 99GSX ecu which would give you the opportunity to get bigger injectors. Are you sure yours isn't compatible, mine ran fine and I had the grey/white gauges.

As for SAFC sucking...I think not. For moderate power it's a cheap alternative than the learning curve from the Link and the price that comes with it. Not everyone is here to make a monster, so the extra cash to dish out isn't always necessary.

As for tuning with it, read this, this is what helped me when I only had the NEO

Herp buy DSMLink even though you've got a flashable ECU derp.
This is ridiculous. Flash your ECU.

That is the most helpful bit of advice I have ever heard....

Please no one else say buy Link. Its not in my budget or build plan, period. I have a 99 GSX, if I had the money to buy link I still wouldn't because of the option to flash my ECU, and for about $400 cheaper. I DO NOT WANT LINK, I don't need anyone telling me to save my money and buy link. Everyone is so quick to put down people for their tuning and have them buy something they don't need. Every thread I have read about tuning people jump in and say Link, Link, Link, Link, and hey thats great if it works for you but its not for me.

DWR-DSM thank you for that link, I searched and searched and didn't come across that one. Its funny how it was right there but when I searched everything "AFC Neo" it doesn't come up. "FAIL"

4Lurker4 thank you as well, I will look over that.

As for flashing my ECU I am one of the unlucky ones that has the 99 with the plastic ECU that doesn't have the compatible board. I pulled it out and checked it against: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/tun...first-flashed-dsm-ecu-98-99-flashing-faq.html

I was ready to buy my Tantrix cable and Evoscan but when I checked my ECU numbers was not on the list. Check pages 21 and 22 if you don't know what I am talking about. I guess I should have been more specific I have a 99 GSX with the white face gauges and has a late build date (Dec 1999) and has the wrong PCB.

I didn't think that the SAFC was that similar to the Neo, for the price I would be better off to just pick up a used SAFC then the newer Neo. I wanted to go a little bigger than 750cc injectors to go on my small 16g. My intent was to go with 20psi on it and that max's out 650's right there. I might have to re-think things though. I was really hoping that the Neo was going to be the ticket because Extreme sells injectors up to 880's in that package with the Neo.

Evoscan should still work on your ecu though shouldn't it? Either way, tactrix or the Neo you'll need something to log to be able to tune properly and for 2g's, evoscan is quite good (you can buy a 9$ OBD2/USB plug to make it work, so quite cheap). So that part of your plan still works.

Other alternative is buying a flashable ecu on top of the tactrix cable, would be a bit more than just the SAFC but would enable you to keep your initial plan of bigger injectors. You can grab a 98GSX ecu for about 100$ if you look carefully sometimes less. I've never run anything over 550 on mine so I wouldn't be able to provide sure evidence of 650cc+ working on the Neo

I have a palm now and mmcd, so able to log, and a wideband to monitor. I need to be able to actually tune before I upgrade the fuel pump and injectors so that was the whole thought process for the Neo. I looked at some of the other plastic ECU's and with them being able to cross flash from the GS-T, GSX, and Spyder it's promising but I am Auto (5spd ECU not the same right?) and very hesitant on used ECU's.

I guess my choice is max out 650's and a SAFC or find a plastic ECU and flash it. The second option is only $150 more.... Thanks for the info on the Neo, I am glad I didn't get that package from Extreme.

Things have changed since page 21/22. The MH7203FA now is supported but you have to use a different ROM and XML.

Bottom line with a Neo or SAFC 2 is that big injectors cause too of a change in the load maps to get good tuning.
