ive got a few questions reguarding the two, here goes
1. ive got a safcii,510cc injectors, and2g maf, question is which is better the gm maft or the combo i already have, should i stick with what i got or is the maft much better
2. how are the comparable with the aspect of tuning, how do you tune the maft, i know how to do the safcii
3. how much does a decent package for the maft cost (translator, and maf)
4.im going to get a t3/t4 and front mount, which would be better to manage that ?

any comments/thread links would be greatly appreciated
thanks
chris

I am currently using the MAFT and I think it does well tuning wise. If you already have a SAFC and know how to tune with it, then I would just stick to that combo and save your money for other upgrades. I think it is easier to tune the MAFT for street use since you tune for injector size first (base tuning), which takes care of drivability issues, then just tune for WOT (which is the real tuning part in my opinion) at will. In the end, it is a matter of personal preference. :thumb:

The two are so similar for their purpose that I wouldn't go selling what you already have for the other.

Keep in mind that using the Maft gives you a mas that will outflow the second gen maf by far and if your going to be upgrading to a large turbo you may want to use the maft.

I personally have both as I got the safc when I was running the 16g and the 2nd gen maf, when i got my GT14 I was advised by slow boy to get the Maft setup.

I like the maft for the bas set up and over all functions including the fine tuning it allows but on top of that I also like the S-afc.

So it really comes down to if your going to get a large turbo and have fears of outflowing the 2nd gen maf.

I know this question has probably been asked a million times, but is thier a page that explains the whole GM MAF thing? Explains everything I need etc?

i dont know about tuning the safc, i have a general idea, but should i really have a dyno shop set it up for me on initial instalation or do u think i could handle it, what i mean is, is it really THAT hard or is it a matter of research, ive done PLENTY of it and ive got all of the documents saved, obviously ill need a logger of some sort, but what else would i need, the only thing holding me back is hte money requeired for the intiial setup (tuning at a shop) but if its that easy, ill jsut do it myself adn be done with it, 2 more things tho,
1. would i have to adjust the fuel trims if i get a fmic after i set it up intially (say 2 months from now)
2. how is the safc to drive in the winter (startup) i hav my 1gmaf hacked RUNS LIKE CRAP it dies everytime i pull up to a light, maybe my plugs are junk, i do vent to atmosphere, this is probably the case

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
thanks

it's the hacked 1G MAF making you stall. flows AWESOME under WOT, any other time, it makes the car run like ass though.. put a GM MAF or a 2G MAF on it, and the stalling should go away

if you have a logger and a decent brain you can tune by yourself

Well the one and only time I think the a/f guage is worth a crap is when first tuning the low tables of the safc. (easy to see the loop mode)

Second I would recommend a pyro meter.

And this is assuming you will also have a logger.

The fmic will cool the charge so it will in effect lean things up a little for you so you may need to tweak across the board 2-3%.

great, thanks for all your help guys, i guess ill stick with the safc2 why sell what i already have, ive seen a lot of sites on tuning the afc 1 does anyone know of sites for the afc2, also when i set it up initally, do i set it up simulate a 2g since i have the maf

right here on dsmtuner: tunning guide, up top!

one thing to add about t obd2 gm maft setup. when locating the maf onto the uicp, you will beable to utilize the MAF's Air Temperature & Barometer functions for more accurate readings. it will also eliminate the the signal on most logger that eliminates the 1606hz max readings even though the Stock MAF can read frequencies well above 2000 hz
