I know you can tune with both, but i need to know what is the best and simplest one to get? What tunes the car better and also what is easyier to use? Thanks.

i would recommend a safc with larger injectors or raised base fuel pressure...it can be tune really reliably without too much hassle

I figured you would have got thrashed by now for starting this thread.

Do a search. You will find a ton of threads on this subject.

They are both easy to use. The MAFT will tune in 2% increments while in fine tuning mode. 5% in normal mode. That will be all you need to get your car tuned good. I believe SAFC tunes in 1% increments, but that is not really even going to be a noticeable difference between 1 and 2 percents. The only advantage of the SAFC over the MAFT is that you can tune for every 200rpms (12 rpm points). On the MAFT there are only 4 rpm break points to fine tune in.

If you are running a GM MAF sensor get a MAFT, if not, get a SAFC II, it's that simple. If you decide to run a GM MAF sensor, then you have to modify your intake pipe, or your UICP, or buy a new one and also the sensor. So your looking at around the same if not a little higher price for the MAFT, the sensor, the new pipes as you are just to buy a SAFC.

You have a 2g which can't read knock anyways, you will tune by timing. You can get a SAFC I version for pretty good price on ebay too. That is what I would do if I were you. Get the SAFC I, keep your 2g MAF, and buy a palm pilot and get the MMCD software for it for free and a cable for it off ebay too and you will be set. You will be tuning in 500rpm break points on the version I SAFC instead of every 200rpms with the SAFC II.

They both are easy to tune with. You just have to read everything you possibly can on tuning which ever one you decide to get. Knowledge is key in tuning.

Good luck.

Wow, where to begin.

Biggest reason I think there's no contest is you can tune by airflow with the MAFT compaired to the rpm points/TPS with the SAFC which is just ghey.

The GM MAF set as blow thru is much more accurate. Imagine the air temp at the filter is 100 degrees but after it's heated by compressing it, then cooled by the intercooler, it'd no where near 100 degrees. If you're messuring temp(by density) right at the throttle body, it's much more accurate.

Spool up is rediculous when using blow thru.

If you blow a coupler off while using blow thru, air is still metered correctly so you can limp home ok.

2% adjustments are plenty. I had my car running perfect with just the 3 base knobs/ranges.

I guess the bad points would be, you have to buy the GM sensor and modify the intake/uicp, and the initial settings only work for about half the people. I had to play with mine for a while and basically make up my own settings using the base knobs AND the dip switches. PITA but well worth it!
