I searched but didnt find exactly what i was looking for.

I have decided to go with the evo3 16g for my fwd. Im definetely getting it ported and will also will running a external wastegate which i already have. Since im fwd i obviously dont want really fast spool up but i dont want it to laggy still want it to be a fun car but my main concern will be drag racing and roll ons. Is it a good idea to get a 10 or 20 degree clip? I read good things and i seen people say no but they never state why. I also am getting hks 264/272 cams which i knwo effects spool up. Is it worth getting it clipped?
Can someone please give me some good opinions on this?

Thanks in advance

Yes! That is one of the best moves to make on a FWD car wanting straight line speed with great street manors. You obviously did your homework. I think most people will agree that that is one of the best setups. Clipping will increase the spool-up time alittle bit and give the power to the top-end where we FWDs make up our time on the strip. The cams are also going to increase the top-end. This will allow for a great racer from a roll. If you want to run the strip please get lsd if you don't already have one. With a good fuel system and I say 650's you will be set. I hope I helped I mean just really think that setup will be amazing to drive. Let us know how it turns out please.

The B16g isn't really a laggy turbo it has great streetability with the sleeper look, but if you want a little faster spool then you could clip it a little. Good Luck. Also i tihink that 550's would work for this turbo, and be alot eaiser to tune with the SAFC as well.

1) He is using an EVOIII 16g
2) Clipping is the technique of cutting away some of the material on the fins of the impeller wheel of the turbocharger. This increases lag ,not give faster spool-up. Since the impeller wheel in the exhaust stream partially blocks the exhaust gas flow (by design), it can act as a significant restriction at high RPMs, when the exhaust flow rate is highest. Clipping the turbo reduces this restriction and allows more air to flow past the turbo wheel at high RPMs, thereby improving airflow through the engine and increasing top-end response.
3) How is putting a 14b/16g style turbo on a 2g considered stealth? If you know anything about 2g's you can spot a 16g in a haystack of T25's.

Not trying to make anybody mad just trying to help the poster out alittle bit. It's amazing what Corkey Bell can teach ya.

Do many guys even run the evoIII clipped? Alot of vendors don't even offer clipping on the evoIII for some reason, even though they do with the other 16g series, anyone know why this is?

Hm that is interesting. Maybe Mike from SBR can chime in if he is lurking around like he always is. Is the impeller made of some sort of composite? Never really studied the EVO III turbocharger.

I ordered a evo 3 from them and asked the same question should I get it clipped and I was told not to on the evo3. Didnt ask why though.

I had my evo3 ported/clipped on a fwd. I still had full boost around 3K, so it didn't increase the lag too much. It really pulled hard tho, I couldn't datalog 3rd gear pulls cause I would break loose once boost hit. If it was a little bit wet out I would break loose 5th rolling in it from 60mph. Great turbo, made heaps of power, but it hit too hard and fast for a fwd in my personal opinion. I was flowing 36-37lbs/min at about 17psi (dsmlink with unhacked 2G maf). Go bigger, lag is a fwd's friend :thumb:

Well it doesn't look like we have a real answer why most don't clip the evoIII but I was thinking maybe it has to do with boost creep? As these turbo's are known to creep if not ported properly. I would think clipping the wheel making it less of a restriction would promote boost creep or add to it?

Ok i had things turned around thanks for helping :thumb:

Thanks for the help so far

Im going to be running a tial 38mm external so boost creep isnt a problem.
Should i go with a 10 or 20 degree clip?
Anybody have first hand experiance with this?
I wonder why no one clips a evo3 16g?
