I am curious as to if it is ok to advance the timing with the cam angle sensor or is that bad to do? I only ask this because i know that the car also uses the cam angle sensor for when to fire the injectors. Is the only safe way to advance the timing with DSMLink? Thanks

Don't go messing with your timing if you don't know what you are doing. Theres info on www.vfaq.com on how to adjust your base timing. Why do you want to advance your timing?

I know the base timing should be set at 8 degrees with a timing light. I'm simply asking that if i want my timing to be bumped up a little higher with out having to get DSMLink. What would happen if i set the base timing at 10 degrees or if I am running higher boost set it at 6 degrees. Would it be bad if I did that with the CAS?

I'm tuning with a wide band and a datalogger so its not like I am adjusting the timing in the dark. If the timing gets advanced to far I will see knock and know to pull the timing back. Does this not sound right?

base timings 5,7-8 is what people usually "performance" set there timing on some better gas aka 100 octane or more, with 18psi or more

Advancing your base timing to about 8 degrees from 5 is ok on a stock car to get a little more pull at low rpms, but not going to do much, and keep in mind that the more you advance your timing, the less safety margin you have. If your ecu detects knock, it will try to pull timing, but if you are already too advanced it cant pull it back enough and you are going to do damage. Not really worth it but you can if you want....

If i do advance the timing with the cam angular sensor i am using a datalogger and i have the alarm set to go off at anything over 6 counts of knock. I will just let off if it starts to go off.

Sounds like you have it figured out. Go for it. Let us know how it turns out.
