adjustable shift cables?

Are the shift cables on the 420 5speed adjustable? I can shift into 1st 3rd and 5th fine but 2nd 4th and reverse can only go in if someone physically pulls on the shift connector (not sure of the name) on the actual transmission while holding the shifter in any of the bottom gears. My bracket was loose before this and was stuck in gear but now i tightened it down, and this is what happened. please help

Same thing happened to me but I found out I stretched one of the cables (forget to disconnect when pulling the motor >.>). I had to just replace the whole assembly which was difficult to source.

im kind of thinking my bracket being loose caused something to move, because when im in neutral the shifter is somewhat at an angle. and i dont get as close to my stereo when in fifth. i used to get really close but now its kinda far. could yanking on it a few times cause it to stretch?

Also, check the bushings at both ends.

thats so weird man im thinking you will have to replace the cables man try and find a 420 at the scrap yard and get some good cables to just eliminate that possibility

Yeah so while fidgeting with it i ended up pulling really hard on the shifter, and the cable on the shifter end just came out. So far that i actually hit my stereo. Its still in one piece but now im sure its stretched. so going the scrap yard early tomorrow, and gonna grab a few cables. i hope thats all it was because i really cant see where else it could fail
