Is there a location, preferably in the rear section of the car that only has ground when you switch the key to accessory or on?

I Installed a fuse box for my amps with a volt meter included but need a ground that will switch on only when the car is running, otherwise the volt readout will stay on the whole time draining the battery.

    Thanks!

No, the ignition switch supplies only positive battery voltage on all pins, you could use a relay to accomplish a switched ground though.

If you have your amp in the trunk there must be a remote wire that turns the amp on when the key is turned on. Could you not also connect your volt meter to this wire ..?

I thought so, thought I ask anyways just in case. I do have a 30A relay handy. I plan on using the hatch light as the trigger since it will only be seen if that is open.

Really!? If so I will definitely use this. I don't have a radio in play to test this out at the moment. So the remote [P.CON] wire is ground? Your 100% sure?

Guys, thanks for the reply. Much appreciated.

The remote power on signal is usually provides +12v to activate the Amp. I think the suggestion was to use it to activate a relay that powers your meter.

Thanks for the clarification Steve on the 12v power type coming out of the power control [P.CON].

I've decided to tap into the hatch light. I won't need it on if the only time ill be able to see it is when the hatch is open. Plus this will be a benefit to know what charge the battery has if I even need to know. With everything off except the hatch light and door ajar light.

    Thanks everyone!

Thank you for correcting SwiftKidGSX on the 12 volt source ... I was trying to log back in to do that myself but I had computer problems ....

voltage will not tell you how much charge the battery has. If it's stupid low you may infer the battery won't perform well but that's about it. You have to put a load on a battery to see if it can put out some amps. Voltage alone isn't a good indicator.
