I did a search on how to make the timing belt tensioner tool, as my battery tie down rod is MIA. I came across a few posts saying that you dont actually need the tool if you are replacing the tensioner. I am replacing pretty much everything on the timing side of the motor, including the tensioner. My questions is do I actually need to bother making the tool, or is it unecessary knowing I am replacing the tensioner? Also, if I do need to make it, what peices do I need to make one from scratch?
Thanks in advance. By the way, if I didnt search thoroughly enough, just shoot me a link and that will suffice :thumb:

it's easier to do the job with it but it is not necessary. In the past I have always jammed the end of a ratchet between the adjustment arm and whatever is above it to keep it from moving upward when I tighten the idler pulley down.

NO. you do not need to make anything if you are replacing the tensoner. It comes already depressed with pin inserted.

So your talking aboutthe auto-tensioner and not the tensioner pulley? I thought you were talking about hte pulley. As for the auto tensioner, i compressed it with a C-clamp. I just put a rag in it to be careful. Worked fine for me.

Yea, I'm replacing the hydraulic tensioner and the pulley.
