I got a couple new dsm owner questions, trying to think of future mods and how to plan the best.
The car is a'90 AWD Tsi

If going with a tuning system link DSM link, etc Does that then take the place of having a fuel cut defender and become your source of boost control also? Or is a fuel cut defender and separate boost controller still needed and the dsmlink only used for mapping?

Second ? Are the stock turbos on a 1G prone to boost creep with an aftermarket o2 housing and 3" catless exhaust. I came from owning an STi which was very prone to boost creep with a free flowing exhaust so I did a tial 38mm EWG at the same time as the exhaust. Question is...Should I plan on spending the money on a EWG setup if I'm still running the stock turbo and planning on only 14-16psi for now, or is boost creep only prone in these cars when they have different turbos?

Second? part 2. Does the stock turbo have the same 02 housing bolt pattern as a 16g, 18g, or 20g or will I be having to buy another o2 housing down the road when I go to 16g or 18g turbo? I know that a none mistu style turbo will obviously have a different bolt pattern.

Thanks for not hating

Yes, DSMLink is the closest thing to a standalone you will get without buying a standalone ECU. A fuel cut defender is used on the stock code which limits air/fuel and all that jazz. With link, you are removing that code and it's replaced in the new EPROM chip with user defined adjustability without having to worry about fuel cut.

You are most likely hearing the boost creep issues with the 16g turbo. Their wastegate inlet is not the most efficent for letting exhaust exit past the turbine and in turn the turbine becomes the path of least resistance. If you are manual, then you'll have a 14b stock, automatic comes with the 13g stock (smaller than the 14b but bigger than the T25). Search wastegate porting to see images of the "hump" where the wastegate inlet is at on a 16g.

But as far as I know, I haven't personally heard of the 1g turbo creeping. Also keep in mind that a highly free flowing exhaust affects it as well (full 3" for example)

The o2 housing outlet is the same when you buy for a DSM. I'm sure there are turbine housings out there that will allow you to bolt up to a different flange style but you won't have to change the housing. If you want a stock style o2 housing then I would suggest getting a Megan Racing recirculated o2 housing or a Punishment Racing Budget o2 housing. They will be MUCH lighter and look better as well. Just be aware if one is mild steel or not (rust)
