Very nice! My first car was a 95 tsi fwd. I too built it up to compete with all the kids in my class whose parents would go out and buy them brand new mustangs. Sure was fun beating up on those pretty new cars! Word of advice though, get a back up daily driver. Things will break!

I agree with what good buds said. Bur if u wana know with my 14b at 12psi I was able to take a slightly modded f150ecoboost don't know if it is worth talking bout but I did. He was so mad he blew through the next red light as I was trying to say nice run. But again don't worry about it, just know that it is yours and it is their to make you happy not them. If they have a prob with it, say hey lets pull down the pants and lets have a real d*** measuring contest and see who is compensating

I too got my GST Spyder as my first car. One thing I always like to say is "Some people drive big trucks to compensate for something....Why do you think I drive such a small car?" It'll get better and when you go to college people will think your car is cool because it has a loud exhaust and makes turbo sounds .

I remember reading your intro thread titled "15 year old with a 2g". Once you said the car didn't have a motor, I'll be honest, I figured you'd post some questions and fall off the map. To see you make it this far at such a young age is awesome.

I can relate to your "ricer" issue, so let me share a personal experience with you:

I grew up in urban areas pretty much all my life. That was until my freshmen year, when I moved to a very rural part of Missouri where I finished out high school. My high school was filled with the typical farm boy redneck types. The types who drove ratty ass K10 Blazers and F250s with body lifts and giant mud tires. Now, here I was in a 90' Eclipse GST. Let's just say, there was never a shortage of Fast & Furious jokes from my farmer friends. Like goodbuds said, enjoy your car and let your critics wallow in their mud holes with their domestic shitheaps. You'll both be better off that way.

Overall, your car is looking great. The subtle gold color on the wheels is perfect. The car looks nice and clean as it currently sits, and there's nothing ricer about it from the pictures I'm looking at. Now, I could do without all the yellow shit you painted under the hood, but I was 16 once, and completely understand the mentality . With time, your tastes will change, and so will your car.

Bottom line, keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to your future updates.

The compliments I gave you were well deserved. You're young, but it's pretty clear you're working hard toward a goal. In today's society where everyone thinks they are entitled and should get whatever they want for nothing, it's refreshing to see a young guy like yourself. I know grown ass men who can't grasp some of the concepts you're speaking about here, so good on you man.

You're lucky to have a father who knows this platform. Suck up all the knowledge you can from your dad, because that's truly invaluable. It took me over a decade to gain the knowledge I have today without a cool DSM dad. You've got a good head start on most people, since you're dad is there to guide you, so take full advantage of that.

Back when your dad built that lime green Talon, the term "ricer" wasn't even really a thing. I can respect a clean and very well maintained car no matter what color it is, or what body kit is on it. To me, it's not so much what is done, but how it is done. No matter my personal feelings on a particular modification, I can respect the time and effort that goes into doing it right. If you put forth the time and effort to make a lime green body kit look as good as a lime green body kit possibly can, I absolutely respect that. From the few pictures you posted, it looks to me like your dad's old Talon is in the "done right" category, so I wouldn't worry too much about people calling it rice or whatnot. It's cool that your dad's old build is inspiring you to do similar things to your own car, even if some things aren't appealing to others (myself included). But, that's the cool thing about this being YOUR car, you can paint shit whatever color you want. Just remember, not everyone will like what you do, so be prepared to deal with criticism, and try to do it in a positive way.

jdxnc, gofer, and ILLiClipse are all great builds to emulate. Follow what those guys are doing, and you'll be on track to having a 2G that looks and performs great. Your build thread should be the place where you can share your accomplishments and let us know what you're working on, so keep posting updates!

Nice car man. I got my first gst when I was 17 now I'm 22 and on #5 . sell them and always end up buying another. my advice is to buy a daily driver. all my eclipse's have been toys/projects aka broke down more than running . when your building a turbo car or daily driving them they are going to have problems so its always nice to have a daily driver that's not your project. keep up the good work bro. learn as much as you can and don't be afraid to ask questions. there is so many knowledgeable guys on this site.

Glad it wasn't anything major. Blowing an intercooler pipe off the coupler is always a scary thing as it's usually loud and unexpected, been there before haha. You have a very clean looking car, keep up the good work on getting it where you want it to be. You have about 3-4 years on where I was around your age for knowledge so you are definitely on the right track to being an expert.

If I were you, I'd just pull one from your 95 parts car. Then, go to Automotivetouchup.com, and get a can of matched spray paint (color and clear) for your car. Spray the handle, and install it. Done.

I know it's a pain in the ass, but just be glad they didn't trash anything else.

So this is your first car? a 1999 GST? Dude its a great looking car, About 4 months ago I purchased a 1997 GST from a guy up in Iowa (now mind you, this is also my first car). Now It had a few issues, like it needed tires, a new clutch and a few months in my alternator went out. But now Im just trying to pay off that last $1,800 that I owe, and I will be perfect to put new mods on my car. First I need to take the wheels up one size and put 17's on it that are somewhat deep dish and work out a few minor flaws in the car such as dents. Lets just hope it pays off.

I always thought a super clean stock interior looks best, but to each their own.

Just keep in mind, as that stuff starts to wear over time, it looks like crap. Unless you're willing to redo it when it starts to look rough, I wouldn't recommend doing it at all.

You're probably right. I was just trying to think of ways to make my car stand out.

It already does stand out to most people who actually know what a clean car (specifically DSM) should look like. You don't need trick colored interior panels to achieve that.

However, when I was young, I did a lot of stuff I thought was cool to make my car stand out. I definitely understand the urge.

My advice would be to do things that can easily be reversed. That way, when you decide redoing your interior in carbor fiber wasn't such a great idea and you're sick of it, you're not stuck replacing interior parts. I'm pretty sure you can get some of the stock bezels redone in CF, so maybe look around for some of those parts. Then, you can just swap them back and forth whenever you want.

Very Cool! I breezed through your thread and it brings back some memories for me. Your way ahead of the game and have a sweet car, I remember when I was in high school going through similar situations that you are. There has been some great advice given here and it sounds like you have an awesome dad pointing you in the right direction! Wait until you swap to AWD and do your first couple launches! Thats a cool feeling.

Eprom ECU used to be the only way to install DSMlink/ECMlink and be able to tune, you would have it socketed so you could plug the chip in to tune. I've been out of the loop for a few years but I know they are flashing the black ECU's now if I remember correctly.
