Hey everyone i have a question that may have been answered numerous times but i did use the search function and now i am here. I was given a 99 GST that is knocking from the bottom end pretty bad, has some upgrades, clean as a whistle, and yes free.. question i have is i have a NON turbo 4g63 out of a 1g and basically i just want to replace the block in the 2g, so can i just swap over the top end and turbo from the 4g63T to the 4g63 NT, i have seen articles about the block squirters, tuning, and weak pistons. But i just want a daily driver, stock boost, stock everything.. any help would be appreciated.. thanks

The 2g head will need the head bolt holes reamed out to .500 so the 1g/6bolt head bolts studs will fit.

A set of NPR turbo pistons and rings are about $120, and can be hung on the NT rods

Then there is some wiring that you will have to do for the CAS.

But the 6 bolt swap has been done numerous times, and many have built the NT block for turbo.

If you are not going for big numbers, or keeping the engine in the upper RPM band for extended periods of time, you can get away with out the oil squirters and the cast turbo pistons.

I would not be to concerned about the oil squirters in your case. There have been people with built motors at 600whp+ with out oil squirters. They have pros and cons to any build.

Thanks for the quick responses everyone...So as far as wiring for the cas goes is there any write ups on that? the ecu, wiring and everything else is gonna be oem from the 99 just using the 1g block, also the knock sensor needs to be put in the 1g block and there is a spot for it but just needs the hole threaded correct?

Yes, there write ups for the CAS wiring, you will have to search for that info.

This is a Stock 6 bolt (63D) NT piston that was in a stock 6 bolt NT block, mileage is unknown.

The short block was dropped in in a stock 1g turbo car.

From what we can recall, this short block/ piston lasted appox 2-3 miles, at stock boost levels, then the rings butted and busted the ring lands.

This was done about 6-8 years ago.

Why was it done? My bud that plays with the 1g's had a pile of NT 4g short blocks, around 10 decent used short blocks, and wanted to try to do what was said could be done.

4 engine swaps in 3 days, all with the same result. One did not last 2 blocks before it popped.
