Well as i prepare the GST for a new home, I am planning the future for my new ride. I am buying two GSXs, a 98 with a great built engine and racing transmission, but messed up salvaged title body. Than there is a straight 96 body, clean title, and with an engine that is at 200k.

I am looking to swap the 98 into the 96, both OBDII ecu's, so i figure it is a stright swap, but I figure i throw it up here and ask if there is anything else i am forgetting.

I have friends who are helping me out so don't worry about me (if you know me and my mechanical limitations) but I am basicly in charge of making sure the engines are plug and play together. Let me know, we plan on doing this in one day (got 6 mechanics all friends) but have 3 days to actually get it back on the road, looking like a friday-sunday project.

I'm no wiseman, but as far as I know, the engine and tranny will be interchangeable. The 95 and 96's do have different CAS though. Some firing order/sprak plug wire swapping might be required.
But if you have the 98 ECU I think you can just put that in along with the 98 engine and rock as if you hadn't changed anything.

Best make sure the transmission is compatible with the 98's transfer case and rear diff. I know they are different between my 99 and a 95 as I researched this a while back while planning a swap of my 99 transmission. The final drive ratio differs between the two years. I don't know if the difference applies between a 98 and 96 though. In my case I will need to put on a 95 transfer case and rear diff to match the 95 trans I'll be swapping onto my car.

Well the ECU is just a little box with connections, so if you had the option to swap like I do, would you just swap the 96 for the 98 ecu?

I got the 96 GSX on monday, posting up pics on another topic in a bit. The engine is pretty toast, but we can talk about that there.

If you guys are all pretty sure it is a direct swap, I will go ahead and get the other eclipse and start the swap next friday. If there is anything I need to know, let me know before than, otherwise, i'll be joining the AWD side of the force :D

Welcome to the club. You'll notice this strange thing when accelerating through tight turns... it feels like something pushing you from behind. Well it is!
The first couple of times I felt this after driving a fwd I thought someone rear ended me!
