Engine Swap = Tranny swap?

I Recently spun a baring and punched a hole in a valve in my 420A engine doing something stupid and not checking everything first. I have raised some money and i am going to put a 4G63 engine in to replace the 420A. I was wondering if the transmission would have to also be replaced.

The transmission is an after-market transmission and is not a regular eclipse manual transmission because my car had a manual overhaul done on it.

I don't believe the stock 420a transmission will work. The 420a transmission bell housing is smaller than the 4g63 transmission so the flywheel and clutch will not fit. However I don't know about your aftermarket transmission but it should be at least the same size bell housing as the stock 420a transmission and only internal work done on it.

I believe it is quite difficult to put a 4g63 motor in a non-turbo car. As far as the transmission goes, I'm 95% sure it will not work. Not to mention you'll need a new ecu with the 4g63...

Putting a 4g63 into where a 420a motor is not an easy task. You can do a search on the forums because there are a lot of questions about doing this. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/285827-420a-evo-4g63.html Hopefully that will shed some more light on this monster task. Nothing is impossible, but it is difficult.

yes i have done some research on it and it does seem way too costly to swap... i think im just going to get a 420A engine from a junk yard and rebuild it if necessary to get it working again. But this time i am going to make sure everything is 100% before i try going 140mph again.

True, I just don't foresee a N/T 2g hitting 140mph at a track that is shorter than a mile.

That sounds like a better plan to me, money wise and the amount of work that would go into a 4g63 swap. I recently rebuilt my 420a, I'm thinking of adding a turbo kit to it but anyways my advice would be either turbo the 420a or save up for awd dsm.
