Engine/Tranny Swap Theories

I'm entertaining hypothetical engine swaps because my crazy friends think it would be cool to stick a small block Chevy motor in my car... As if I would let them do that.

So anyway, I don't even know how I thought this would work, because it probably wouldn't, but could you swap a 92-97 VR-4 engine into an Eclipse or Talon? I know they are four wheel drive, so you'd need a tranny from a TSi or GSX, yes? Or is the VR-4 motor too big for a 95-99 Eclipse/Talon engine bay? Obviously I don't know anything about 6A12TT's but I think it'd be cool to have a twin turbo V6 in an Eclipse

When my fiance got home, he said to me: "you know, I have that 302 V8 just sitting around. That would fit in your car."
And I said "ok, but it wouldn't bolt up to my tranny." My car is an automatic.
So he said "I have a four speed that goes with it. But it's rear wheel drive. But guess what? I have an axel that we'd put on your car!"
I rolled my eyes and said "what about the computer?"
Then he gave me this long explanation of how it would all function great and I told him that if he thinks he can get it to work to go ahead, but as my car is the only running one between us he said he'll do it when we have another daily driver. I said if we actually do this I'll post a build journal for you guys, just because it would be so ridiculous. And if we DO get it done and it actually WORKS, my car will be a "Mustubishi", since it'll have Mustang parts. But it wouldn't count as a DSM any more

HI! Do it, sometimes it's always good to have ideas outside of the norm=) If you or your man have everything needed than go for it ,Somebody is always going to hate so dont listen but GOOD LUCK and please keep us posted if you do. I see that your car is a NT so dont feel to bad but than again he does want to put a ford motor in there JK (im a chevy guy) =)

If you like doing tons of metal fabrication to drop a 302 in a DSM, go for it.

It has to be RWD - just steal a transmission and rear end from a Mustang.

The V6 thing is massive metal fabrication as well along with beefing up the front end for the extra weight for both motors...

I mentioned the weight issue but he has always has an answer for everything

I personally would like to keep my car a true Mitsubishi, though it would be pretty fun to kick the crap out of all the ricers in town so effortlessly. But I can just imagine showing everyone whats under my hood and them going "wtf?" Heh heh. Like I said, this *could* be a future project.

It would be 100 times easier to buy a gst or gsx and would likely be faster.
