I really need to know if there is anything different from a 95 eclipse rs to a 96 eclipse rs.

I got told that the wiring harness is different is this true and if it is what do i have to change. i am try to do this soon so need to now. also do have to drop the engine and tranny. Can I take the front clip off - meaning everything even the radiator support too.

if there is any one could help me thanks :dsm:

95' is OBD1. 96 is OBD2.

You'll need a different engine harness and ECU. There's probably a few other things you'll need that's different as well.

well do you know where i can find the info at. i got the motor out of 95 and i now there different wiring harness by looking at ecu from the 95. do i wirer that ecu into the 96 or what?

Wow that is COMPLETELY wrong. OBDII started in 95-present. OBDI ended in 94 for us. You can directly swap the engine from the 95-96. There should be no differences with the ECU's, and there should not be any difference with the wiring harness. The manufacturer WON'T change the harness from year to year, then will mearly add onto what is existing...why you ask? $$$ them changing everything out would lose them $$$ so they wouldn't do that. All you have to do is drop the motor/trans. into the bay together, and bolt up the motor mount's, then plug everything in. I took my radiator/anything easily removable from the engine bay so that it would be easier( by providing more room) to drop the engine in.

Yeah, the 1st posts are all completely wrong. If both are turbos, everything will swap directly over. The only notable different is the 95 ecu is eprom if turbo, and the 96 ecu will not be eprom.

Are you sure? He even said he looked at the plug on the harness and it was different. My mom's DSM (Chrysler Cirrus) needed a new ECU and we had to find one out of a 95' Avenger, Stratus, Breeze, etc.

I could be wrong the Eclipses/Talons may be different.

95-96 Eclipse/Talon 420a ECUs have a 60-pin, and the 97-99s have a 68 pin. If you can plug in a Sebring ECU into our harness, Im pretty sure you can do a 95 to a 96 swap :).

These are 420a motor's...ie:non-turbo'd. But still they will swap over. I swapped the motor from a 97-99 420a into my 99 GS, and I didnt have to change out harness' or ECUs...well I did have to get a new ECU, but that was merely cause it was toast, and wound up frying a few electrical component's LOL.

thanks. i know that the 95 got 2 boxes in the front and 96 just got big one. i found out that there is no diffence in wiring harness. there are only one plug different and that is all. i got a program called mechal. something like that. i also went to talk with a dsm specailst. he explian it to me. the OBD1 where only made tell 94 and 95 started the OBD2.
thanks guys i hope this help someone else in same need.
