I've been doing a little research on find a limited slip rear end for my car.. I have a non limited slip rear end. on my 1998 5-Speed.

So here comes the question. Can I just use any limited slip rear end if I just swap out the diff and ring gear into mine? Has anyone done it?? I was wonder if I could use a Auto Limited slip or 1G 4 bolt and just swap out the ring gear and cv joints?

Thanks for the help guys

You can't use 1G parts, only 2G

If you found one from a AT car: In theory yes, all you need is the carrier. Just swap your ring gear on, shim the carrier and put it all back together.

If you find another MT diff, just swap the whole assembly out, they are all the same.

not exactly

my 95 rear diff has a vicous lsd says "BFH" on it

the 98 rear diff i just bought to replace my broken 95 says "BFB" and is a helical type lsd.

also the axles from the 95 and the 98 are different on the passenger side.

OH, and the rear diffs have different gear ratios from at to mt.

at is like 3.6 or something

mt is defiently 3.545

good luck

That is interesting about the posi type being different, I have never heard that.

Assuming the carrier the the same size though, you can swap ring gears.. but that would also include disregaurding the axle difference also. I still think it is possible, but then you are looking for a very specific diff... good luck on that. :)

I just got a diff out of a 5-speed 1995 LSD to put on my 98. I also pick up cv joints at drive shaft shop for a LSD rear end. Will there be anything else I would need? Thanks for all the help.

You need the entire axle assemblies - the inboard joints will not swap over as the inboard splines on the axle shaft are different between LSD and non-LSD.
