hello i am new here but have searched everywhere and cant get any incite on my problem. well to start off i have a 98 eclipse rs 420a non turbo auto trans. and the trans will not shift. its stuck in 2 gear i mean it will go and hit first then 2nd but when it tries to hit third it hits back into 2nd and stays there aka limp mode. so i have tried everything to get it to shift first i tried changing the valve body under the trans it had a broken spring on a shift kit so i swapped it out with a stock one from a 99 eclipse gs. well got it all done and put back together and no luck then i tried a tcu and a trans tcu relay the one located on the fire wall farthest to the right of the car. then it shifted a little better but then i was going up a steep hill and then 3rd gear went completely. so i only had second but then shortly noised it was in limo mode 2nd gear. so i stopped and turned off the car and it would hit first gear and then 2 and then nothing like it was in neutral. strange. so i went and got a new/used trans shift solenoid assembly. and it didn't make a difference so right now i am so confused. i have tried and replaced everything eclectically on the dang trans with no luck. and i almost forgot to say when i first got the car it only had 3rd gear the 4th or aka overdrive was not there i would turn on the overdrive and it would go into a neutral like mode. so i could really use some advise on what could be my problem i have but well over $500 or so into the dang trans and still cant get it to shift i have read of a end clutch but were would that be on a Chrysler trans. do to i know its not under the pan/cover on the drivers side of the car behind my wheel. the only thing there is 2 gears. so i am at a loss here the only thing i can think is that the tcu and relays were from a 96 talon and the ecu in my car wont match up with the one in the 96 talon i got the tcu and relays from. and the only other part i haven't tried to change yet is my speed input and out put sensors. because when i got the codes red they said incorrect 4th gear ratio then a week or so later said 3rd gear incorrect gear ratio. and my speedometer and tecknomotor work great. so i am rather at a loss here and wondering if i should go and get a tcu from a 99 along with the relays. and maby the speed sensors as well. do to i know the gears got to be good in it when i did the valve body change there was no chunks of metal in the pan. so some help would be muchly appreciated. :banghead:

Bump! Wondering if you figured out if it was a relay and which one? I'm having the same issue with my 95 rs non turbo auto. We took it to a auto shop and they instantly said it was a bad tranny and we said okay fine we'll do it ourselves, we replaced the tranny with a rebuilt one, it was working fine then started to blow the engine fuse so then we located what the engine fuse does which apparently controls the fuel pump, ignition switch, ecu. Well we've replaced the fuel pump and now the engine fuse doesn't blow. Just still stays in 2nd gear. Was it the relays on the firewall? Because mine were clicking but we just dont know which relay does what in order to replace it. Help please :)

So when it blows the engine fuse.. a clogged line could be in order? Hmm. Doubtful but cant rule it out, it was shifting fine then it slowly started to act as if the tranny was bad, it's not, we switch the tranny it only stays in 2nd gear shifts in reverse, neutral, 1st and then 2nd. Changed the fuel pump because of the engine fuse saying it could be the Fuel Pump, Ignition Switch and/or Ecu. Checked the Ignition Switch, works fine. Ecu doesn't look there is No CEL on. People have been saying its limp mode. Well another fella says its a relay. That would make sense because of having to start the car without blowing the fuse we have to unhook the 3rd relay aka Etax relay. then once it starts, we plug it back in and it goes but doesn't shift. Does anyone know where I can find an Etax Relay? or a Rebuilt TCU?

wanted to know how reliable an eclipse rs automatic can be? ive had one but it was manual. Im currently into buying an auto but ive heard some bad stuff about it.. I might test drive it today , wanted to know what to look for for the tranny. i know stuff about the car just have never driven a auto eclipse. I know it shouldnt have trouble shifting, but is there anything i can do to make sure its working right.
