stupid/random question yes but i trying to find out ### the usual shift points are for each gear in an auto trans for a 97 gst. when i last drove the car i was doing 55mph and the rpms were roughly around 3-3 1/2.. is that normal? just trying to determine if my trannys a little retarded.. LOL.. nah but the reason why im asking is because im doing a fwd 6bolt tsi swap and i was told i should just use the gst tranny because thier stronger and last longer. and i also heard it would be much easier. i mean i have a a complete 5sp 6 bolt swap but it the 2gs tranny is better i might as well use it.. the crappy part is i already bought a ckutch kit for the 6 bolt.. reguardless im going to keep the 5spd tranny and new clutch.. just in case.. but still.. ### are the shift points in the auto trans? anyone know? thanx

Shift point in the auto trans are and can be different depending on throttle position..But you said 3-3.5 k at 55..That seems pretty normal to me..If you had OD on and the tranny shifted for you at say 35mph then yeah that sounds pretty normal..

If you want a 5 speed do the 5 speed swap.If you want to keep the auto than do that..It all depends on what you want..Yes auto's are better for drag racing there is lees driver error, and they are more consistant..But if you want a 5speed do the swap..

As Bud92GSX said the shift point on any auto trans depends on a number of variables. If you already bought the clutch kit I would say go ahead and swap in the 5spd it is not that much work. However if you plan to continue your build and make big power you should stick with the auto because they are more consistant. It all depends on what you want to do with the car.

personally i love my auto, its quick for what it is and the more i learn about them the more i like it. You could always do a full line pressure mod for when your at the track. this preserves the clutches in the transmition.
