ok so i am getting a 98 eclipse gst in about a week he says the engine is stock and same with the exhaust i am basically new to cars trying to learn while im young LOL what parts should i get to make it a fast fast car? the exhaust do i need a new one to make it rumble like a beast? or just a muffler tip? me and my buddies are all getting eclipses kinda like starting a dsm club LOL in our little town. but anyways i want this car the fastest but i dont want the risk of blowing the engine cause i know nothing of turbos so if you could just everyone pile on this thread and give me all the tips, parts(where i get them), and all that good stuff thank you very much:)

First step: buy Paul Walker's book. It has a lot of great info. Then get Need for Speed: Most Wanted for Playstation, log a few hundred hours on there and you'll be ready.

Seriously though, just start browsing this forum and DSMtalk as well. That'll get you started and help you narrow down your goals.

Maybe learn how to use this website before you buy the car. There's a parts-guide, tech-path and all the how-to's you'll need before posting.

Start with maintenance. Make sure the fliuds are good, timing belt, turbo shaft play, end play in the crank... get all that stuff checked out and taken care of if it needs it.

Here's a link to the tech articles.

+1 on researching...

I’m not trying to bring you down but you really need to learn alot of stuff before you want a “fast fast” car. Don’t expect us to give you a list and a full how to guide on how to make your car “fast fast”. First thing you should do is ALOT OF RESEARCH. Everyone started here and so will you, I’ve been working on these cars since i was 16. Oh and remember to make a goal (250hp, 350hp, 400hp, or whatever) Also make sure you get a manual for your car.

amen. make sure to make it a REALISTIC goal. something you can afford to finish, not something that you're gonna get halfway through and run out of money. check out all the help sections, READ them. if you just get really stuck, or don't understand something, then you can ask everyone for help.

if you don't want to go through any of this... buy the car anyway then just sign it over to me :p

First start off with Rule #5. LOL
Will it never hurt to learn. I spent half a year on this site before I bought my 98 gst. You have to be sure you know what your buying and signs of when to walk away if it's a bad sign/ buy.

Take care of the car/ motor before any mods. It'll last longer and once again I can't stress this enough. Peace of mind is priceless. Do basic mods after that and once you're comfortable with turbos. It'll be a piece of cake. I came into this forum with no knowledge of turbo's and now I'm educating my friends. How cool is that!
