Car looks sick. Love that mountain pic.

Thanks man, yea stuff like that sure makes the driving trip not as bad.

UPDATE:
So the motor will be broken in tomorrow, the oil pressure was good when they started it, really glad to hear that! :thumb:
Have a great friday everyone!

My Gosh.... Once again, you have the cleanest engine bay ever!

Thank you man, because I have seen some clean bays. Thank you for that.

Great build man. I have been following this build for a while. I love how it came out. Makes me wanna do this but I cant :banghead:

Have you started it yet?

Haha you beat me to it,

THE CAR IS ALIVE AND DRIVING!!!
My girl and I went and got the car yesterday. I drove it home about 140 miles. Everything went well, the car drove great. The new transmission is a bit to get used to, but not bad at all. The car is tuned on Speed Density to 26lbs at 8krpm making 400awhp! On the dyno it kept making power, with no knock, so they will retune the car at 9kprms in a few months. They think it will be around 420hp when said and done. Also, if I get rid of my HKS272 cams and get GSC S2's then I will pick up another 30hp or so. So basically if I put in the new cams and have it retuned for 9k RPM's then I should be around 450awhp on pump gas! We will see, I just want to enjoy the car as-is for a while.
97 GSX - 400awhp - 8k RPM redline - 26lbs - PUMP GAS with more in it!
I am super happy to be able to drive my car after 7 months of work.
Thanks to English Racing for helping me with the car. Really good people that fully stand behind all of their work! Thanks to my girl for not killing me at times LOL... Thanks to my friends that have helped me along the way.

Congrats man. I'm just now starting on my build.

Wow. I don't reply for a month, and now it's all done. I'm gonna really miss your build, man. Congrats! It looks and sounds beautiful.

P.S. Alabama life is great, thanks. I moved to Texas for a while, but i'm moving back in a week or so.

Damn man im so jealous i have been following this like a soap opera from a while. Mine has be down THIS TIME since 1/3/11 and the last of the parts came in yesterday and i will have mine back on the road soon with a SBR 2.1 destroker and bullseye s362. Your videos suck LOL, their a teaser, I wanna see this girl run.

:........( its been fun, one of the nicest thread here. But hey, this is why threads are made for! to get finished. Awesome ride, looks like its be a blast to drive. I am happy for you that is finally on the road, go have fun with it and dont get into any trouble. Cheers!

I took the small three hour drive and went and picked up the motor. Very happy so far.

What I had done to it, 6 bolt longblock, build by English Racing / Wiseco HD 1400 Forged Pistons 9:1 compression / Eagle H-Beam Rods / ARP Head Studs / OEM Crank / ACL Race Bearings / Head upgraded with GSC valve springs, TI retainers, Chromoly seats, Supertech valves with the 4-angle intake valve grind and the 4-angle radius exhaust valve grind / HKS 272 intake and exhaust cams / HKS adjustable cam gears / Cosmetic hg /
:)

It's coming along, pics below. Oh and the crate it is sitting on, I custom made for this engine to fit into perfectly. I needed a way to strap it into my truck. I doesn't look like much but it is very functional and strong.

Thank you for the nice comment, I wanted to make a thread that people could follow along and be user friendly, I enjoy the feedback, I really tried to keep it well organized.

It is a thrill to drive, scary sometimes, but so much fun. I really will try to stay out of trouble though ;)

Cheers to you man!

UPDATE: I have put 524 miles onto the car! The thing is dam amazing. I really like running Speed Density and not the stock MAF. I have a small fluid leak that I believe is transmisson fluid, not 100% sure yet, so I just keep driving and checking fluids, but the leak is so small it's hard to tell what it is...It leaks in the clutch disk area, in the bellhousing, where the block bolts to the trans. To fix the leak the transmission will have to come off, so I am waiting a bit before fixing the leak for good, I just want to enjoy the car for a bit before needing to take it apart again haha..

Almost ready to put up the video link for the WHOLE BUILD it's 28 minutes long haha...

Happy Friday Everyone!!

great build journal with all the updates.

Thanks man

Great to see that baby finally running, congrats on your build man! One of the few journals i've seen that literally restored their DSM to brand new condition!:hellyeah:

Thanks man! Yea she is running and running great. The car is very strong. Almost literaly everything from the windshield forward is new on this car, All the bolts and everything got replaced, so many trips to the fastener store haha...

Great build, would love to do that to my 1g get all of that grime out of the engine bay. BTW kinda sounds like that oil leak could be your rear main seal. Hopefully its not and something much easier!! Def should post a video of a 1-3 gear pull!!

Yea it's still to hard to say if the leak is trans fluid or motor oil, it's such a small leak that I can't tell if the oil is light green or clear. The brad penn motor oil I have is a light green. Anyways yea I am starting to think that it's motor oil, the rear main seal, because the trans oil isn't going down noticeably, when I check it. I really don't want to take it apart again so soon haha. Dang this sucks...LOL
Alright for sure I will get a video soon.

So I talked with English Racing today, I told them about the small oil leak I am having. It is motor oil that is leaking! He said that their machine shop used different "Oil galley plugs" than normal, making the leak. So the bad news is I need to take the transmission back off, the good news is that this "oil galley plug" is simple to replace when I get things all apart. Glad it's not the rear main seal.

Having some problems getting my complete build video to upload to youtube. It's in HD so it is like 3.5G of memory LOL...

very jealous... just out of curiosity... what sort of work do you do? took me almost a year to complete mine and im a computer tech. LOL but i still havent made it down to english yet for my tune, i am also on SD but i cant wait to race you man haha will be close. what turbo you running again? didnt catch it in your mod list

THE ONLY THING THAT I CAN SEE THAT YOU NEED IS A DAMN TUBULAR MANIFOLD! that 2g stock one looks does your bay no justice.. pick up a DNP and then i will say you have THE cleanest DSM i have seen... well i will have to see it in person someday that is

i hope you never ever sell this DSM BUT i think you could get MSRP for this thing after all is said and done... even if it is a 15 year old car... and that is really saying something!

EDIT: oh old school FP GREEN, nice choice. im going to switch to an english racing sold FP3065 or FP3082HTA next

The complete build video!!!!!

In hd!!

Enjoy

At my work, I am the head of 3D CAD design. (I originally started working at my work, in electronics, then moved into the design field.) I run a 3D program at my work called Solidworks. They sent me out/paid for training for this. I am also head of the C02 Laser engraving machine. I engrave all of our company part#s, and logos onto every part we make. We are in Microscopy, and build very custom automated stages for some of the top scientists in the WORLD. People that try to figure out cancer, people that study cells ect. I enjoy my work, but it is a lot of work.

Yea man I was reading one of your threads on the tuning stuff. All of the tuning is new to me, so that's why I had English handle all the tuning on this car. Basically I know you will be happy if you have them tune it for you, takes a lot of headache out of the car. I am slowly learning more and more about DSMLink, now that I am looking at my own logs and such for my car.

The Tubular manifold. The stock one I have is newly ceramic coated, and is not any kind of exhaust flow restriction yet. With that being said, you're right, it would look way better with something else. I was looking into the ERL Cast manifolds, but I decided I wouldn't change anything on my turbo/exhaust set-up unless I get a whole new set-up, all at the same time. If I got a new manifold I would also need to get a new 02 housing to attach the wastegate to. I currently run my wastegate off the manifold. I have a nice Megan racing 02 housing right now, and that would have to go. Someday I will though. I really like those ERL Cast manifolds. Maybe I will change the exhaust when I upgrade to the new cams. Have it all tuned/done at the same time. With new exhaust/cams I would be close to 450awhp on pump gas!

Thanks man, I will never sell it, ever... Well unless someone hands me like 40k or something haha. But that will never happen LOL. I have so much time into this car.
Yea, your car should hall ass with either one of those turbos. I just looked up the specs on them.
We will have to meet up sometime! I am in Oregon, so maybe the next time I head out to English Racing or something.

Total build cost from begenning to now ?

gonna throw out a wild guess.... low to mid 20,000's not including the cost of the car, (you did say every bolt and nut was replaced :p and a 5 grand tranny setup. LOL)

dont ever sell it, even if someone offered you 40k its sentimental... and yours probably is more sentimental to you then mine is to me because of all the extra time you put into cosmetics. i will definitly hit you up when i go on my way to english for a tune. which i guess wont be for a few months cause im broke as a joke

Exactly, wayyy to much time into it. I never see myself selling this car. Ever... As far as price i'm not going to say for a few reasons.
