The car in question is a 97 GST with unknown mileage (i don't know the mileage on it yet, haven't called in about it) up for 2500, I'm willing to spend no more than 1,500k on this car on repairs and maintenance to get it in tip top shape. Even though, i ask you if you guys think this is a worth while deal, at first glace i do.

But, there is a catch.
Description listed by seller:

"this car has a evo turbo, greddy intercooler, xs power blow off valve, injen intake,3 inch medro bent exhaust, and is tuned with afc neo, also has coil overs...the biggest issue is that it has a oil leak and i just dont have the time to deal with it and the driver window needs a new motor..... "

I did research and found this post:
------
There are normally only about 4 external oil leaks on our 2gnt's from the factory. Head gasket which develops at the driver's side rear of the head, camshaft position sensor seal which is on the driver's side exhaust cam which leaks down the head and then to the rear making it LOOK like a head gasket, the rear main seals back out sometimes at high mileage and then there's the oil pressure sending unit which, leaks down the block on the rear, driver's side as well. To the untrained eye... they can all be perceived as being a head gasket if they are too lazy to clean off the old oil, add oil leak dye and check for the actual source of the leak.
-----

With that post, how much does it cost to fix those above mentioned oil leaks? Are there any other possible places it would leak, if so , how much to fix it? What the WORST CASE Scenario for an oil leak and how much would that cost me?

-I just need an estimate on how much it might cost to fix that oil leak, DEPENDING on WHAT part of the motor the leak is coming from. Is there any common leaks that happen with these cars? Any ideas what can leak?

-----
-Yes i will call and ask for VIN pull up carfax
-Yes i will take it for a test drive with my mechanic, have him check it
-Yes i will have an independent mechanical inspection done to verify if the car is worth fixing
-Anything else i should know to do/check?
-----

Please Help, Thanks.

first of all a GST is not a 2gnt

Nt means non turbo, GST is turbo

pardon, i thought i tagged it with "2G" and not "NT", did i tag it incorrectly?

EDIT: Oh whoops. I missed that part in the Research i did, it was for the 2G non turbos'. My bad.

Still, does that post apply in relevancy still for GSTs? If not, then where on a GST would it usually leak from usual high mileage wear and tear?

I personally would check the Turbo oil feed and Oil return, seem to be one of the most common leaks, that and with the previous owner swapping turbos in it gives it a good reason to leak possiablly. They are both simple fix, most of the time some sealant or teflon tape, and you are good to go. Thats about the only oil leak i have ever had on my Gst.

If you a mechanically inclined you can just re-do all the seals/gaskets yourself for under $1500.

Cool, thanks for the info! i'll look for places to find all the parts just in case i have to replace any, any personal recommendations on a reputable vendor?, as i have connections to get everything fixed. :)

That's a good point. I'll make sure to check that as well. Thank you for your personal advice. It's much appreciated.

-Any one else have any ideas of where this oil leak could be coming originating and if so the repair costs? Or anything else important that i should check that i might look over? I'm looking to call about this baby early in the morning tomorrow and if all goes well, i will drive it home tomorrow afternoon.

-So, it would be great to know where to tell the mechanic to check for the leak as to make sure it's found.

And I will definitely come back and post up some nice pics for you all kind hearted informative gentlemen. :)

EDIT(Update):- I called and found out the car has about 120,000 miles on it, and that the oil leak is allegedly coming from the oil feed line to the turbo. The guy selling it is a mechanic but claims he doesn't have time to fix the leak...

Should i think this is a bit shady for deal (as in there's other things wrong with the car: hence the price) or should It still be worth checking out and giving it an independent mechanical inspection to reassure myself of any other serious issues pre-buy?

If it is coming from the turbo you should be able to see it. It would be the line that goes in right in th e center section on top.
These commonly leak, and you can get many different configurations that are less leak prone than others.

I'd say check it for sysmptoms of crank walk, do a compression test, and go for it.
