hi guys,

i have one question , as i know that the stock Turbo for an automatic gear 97 gst is smaller than the Turbo of a manual gear gst ,

can i install the Manual turbo on the Automatic car, and what will happen if i do that ?

both cars are having the same models / one automatic gear with small turbo and the other is manual gear with bigger turbo

please let me know

The 2g's have the same turbo automatic or manual. They are the same. Now 1g's have a different turbo auto to manual. You can swap on a 14b pretty easily. Just have to mix and match 1g and 2g coolant lines.

are you sure about that because i saw the two cars and the turbo is different . the automatic turbo is smaller than the Manual

please double check and let me know

thanks

Asexton is correct. If you saw 2 different turbos on a set of 2g cars, then some one has changed one of them. The 1g as he stated has a slighly smaller turbo and smaller injectors from the factory. And if you went any smaller than the stock 2g turbo you'd probably lose it in the crack of your couch cushions LOL

i am sure you know about this car more than me , but beileve me my friend there is a difference between the two turbos one is bigger than the other ?

can you also tell me which one is bigger and better the t25 or the 14b

thanks to let me know

Swap the 14b. Open up the exhaust. Replace that upper intercooler pipe. If you still have that lower intercooler pipe with the big plastic silencer in it. Find a 97-99 lower intercooler pipe to replace that. Also get a 1g bof to replace that plastic piece of crap. Starting to notice I said plastic a few times....I sure did. Port the 14b a lil bit and you should be noticing quite a bit more power. Just search the forums and you will find plenty.

thank you guys i just checked with the owner of the manual car and he said that he changed the Turbo and he put a bigger one :) he is not sure which one :)

thank you guys for all the precious info / i will get myslef a new 14b and i will install it and will let you know

cheerssssss

If you can afford it, skip the 14b and go at least with a normal 16g and install parts. If you're handy with tools and fabbing basic stuff, you can get the stuff you need to install the 16G from a local hydraulic line repair shop and junk yard much cheaper than buying it from RRE or any other place like that. The only thing you're going to need new or used from the oder style car is the elbow/outlet from the turbo housing to point the outlet in the right direction and then a few pieces of pipe and rubber hose to make the connection.. (cheap route for this is finding a radiator hose at an auto parts store that is the right diameter and has some decent bends in it and an exhaust shop to bend the hard pipes you'll need)

Here's a link to the upgrade path by RRE (very good info and a proven path to an afforable set of upgrades), go to the 16G in the turbo section and look at the DIY tweaker install kit.. instead of getting their parts, you can get the stock elbow from a first gen 14b turbo outlet from a junk yard or used from some one who has went larger ( i might even have a spare in my old parts box that you could have for shipping), and have the SS oil feed line built at a local hydro shopf for only about 25 bucks

Here's the direct link to the install kit parts..agan, you can get the stuff locally cheaper, get a bone yard turbo outlet and go to the local hydro line shop for the oil feed and will save you at least 100 bucks off this kit. For the oil return you can file the holes out on the one that 's on the stock turbo and it will work just fine.

Don't forget to keep the boost low untill you get some bigger injectors and some sort of fuel control and fuel pump ( a used Apex SAFC can be found for 100 bucks or less on fleabay and in classifieds ).. Just follow the upgrade path on RRE's page and you can't go wrong unless you start skipping critical parts.

Best of luck, your car will becime more and more fun with every mod, and you'll be proud to be able to say " i did it myself" when all is said and done

thank you very much for your help , but i really do not want to mess with my car i drive it everyday to work and i dont need any trouble :) ,

without upgrade the car was giving me problems :) i can imagine if i upgrade what will happen :) you know what i mean ?

i did not even change the BOV, so many people came to me offering a new BOV greedy but i said no i prefer my car to be stock, dont you think its much better ? to keep your car stock?

i only changed so far the spark plugs and nothing more :) everything on the car is stock except the tires and the alloy wheels ( check the picture)

thanks again i really appreciate your help and concern , maybe after few months i will consider some upgrades as i need to sell my lovely lovely eclipse to buy a family car 4x4 :(

Stock is just fine. The common misconception is that you have to mod your car for it to be fun which is retarded. 1/2 the people modding their cars are doing it in a terrible fashion anyway and their lack of knowledge combined with their skimping on parts causes their DSM to not run right and then they bi*** uncontrollably and eventually sell the car for way too cheap and then proceed to talk endless shit about how unreliable DSM's are.

I say if you're happy with the power it has stock and are more concerned about reliability then leave it 100% stock. If you truly are at stock boost levels then your plastic BOV will be fine. If you up the boost I'd suggest switching the plastic out asap. Make sure you keep up on the maintenance though as that's the #1 killer of good DSM's. A lot of guys let their timing belts go and end up with some bent valves and dented pistons. Or even worse, some guys mod their cars before doing any maintenance. You can imagine the problems this causes.

I agree with you that leaving your car stock is the best way to assure it lasts. With your limited knowledge of DSM's I'd say at this point that if you started modding it you'd only make it worse. If you're thinking about modding it down the road then this is a great time to learn and read everything you possibly can about DSM's so when you do decide to start upping the power levels you're aware of what's going on. Best of luck with your car.
