Alright now i am stuck on a part

I bought a 1990 gsx (awd version) 6bolt 4g63t motor. now i was wonder, the top mount on the timing side, my question is - are there 2 different top mounts? is the AWD mount different then a FWD mount?

The previous motor had a 2g bracket with a 2g mount and it sat fine. it looks like the 2g mount sits lower.
now is there another 1g mount out there that sits lower? trying to avoid taking out the motor and putting the 2g bracket/mount onto the awd motor. i would have to take out all the pulleys and stuff. (yes i know i need new mounts LOL)
any help would be appreciated

Blue top is the previous 6bolt motor (fwd)
Silver top is the 6bolt motor i am installing (awd)

*NOTE*
I am using "AWD" term since that silver top came out of a gsx. car will stay FWD of course.

Motor that came out

motor thats going in

Notice how the 2g mount sits lower, closer to that nearest pulley

Notice how this 1g mount sits higher, and more further away to the nearest pulley

In this picture, i dont have it sitting 100% straight, but heres a little example of what i am currently experiencing
see how this 1g mount sits, motor looks straight, but look how far apart it is to bolt on.

Now if anyone can answer my question if there's a difference between a AWD and FWD top front motor mount
remember i am trying to avoid taking out the motor and putting the 2g bracket/mount onto the awd motor. i would have to take out all the pulleys and stuff.

Any help would be appreciated. thanks

As far as DSM's go the mount is the same (1g vs 1g and 2g vs 2g). Obviously a 1g mount and 2g mount will be different. The problem is neither the 1g or 2g mount is a direct bolt in for putting a 4g63 in a 4th gen mirage.

FWD and AWD doesn't matter about the motor mount. The reason your mount looks funny is because whomever swapped the 4g in to your car, modified the 2g DSM motor mount to get it to fit into the mirage.

The part that engine mount bolts too (and the timing tensioner arm) is different between 1st and 2nd gen engines.

I had to grind the shit out of a 2nd gen part to get it to fit around a 1s gen water pump. But if you have a bench grider / angle grinder and your not afraid to chop/mod, you can get it to work.

Yeah that's what im guessing too LOL only have Saturdays to really work on it, so Saturday, i am going to pull it out and just swap out the mounts. im in no rush, currently waiting for a mhi evo lll 16g turbo and gaskets to have it fully running

Your going to need to grind it to make fit. I would also review the procedure for installing the timing belt if your not familiar with that.

Yeah ill see how that goes when i take it out again -_- LOL
im some what familiar with everything else. had a 350awhp talon before, if i run into other problems, im sure my bro can help out. we are just stuck on this mount stuff LOL

Good luck, keep us updated with your build. I really would love to find a 3rd or 4th gen mirage. Rare as #### in my area.

what part needs to be grinded down? im looking at my old engine, doesnt seem like anything was grinded down, ill probably find out when i take off everything LOL

yeah everyone keeps telling me they dont see many 4th gens with 4gs. LOL i surprised this guy in riverside ca, he thought i was rolling one of those hatchbacks but then he saw my car and told me it was really different that he doesnt see them out anywhere

Finding a decent mirage (less than about 250k miles) around here is like super rare. Finding a 4 door 3rd gen would make my year.....

You will see ### needs to be grinded down once you take off the timing cover/timing belt etc.

Basically you need grind the left (front) edge to contour around the water pump. You also need to use the appropriate tensioner arm. Can't mix and match them since they bolt to the engine mount bracket.

ive been seeing alot of them 2drs / 4drs here where i live, but of coruse they dont have 4g's in them.
the ones i see go fro $1800 and under. they probably have alot of miles tho LOL

ah alright for sure, will look into once i work on it next week. will keep updating

i wonder if the original owner will be on the mirage forums. would make things easier LOL previous doesnt really know much which makes this very difficult. im glad that im doing this myself so i can know LOL

If you can find a 90-95 hyundai elantra, the motor mount is moved to the left allowing the engine to be in correctly or use the stock one, grind it and move it and reweld it.

I rather go this route to see if it works. ill most likely go to the junk yard and hope to find one. to test fit it before buying a new one. i looked up those mounts, does face lower. but to mount it on, looked kinda different. but never hurts to try. i need to do something either way LOL thanks for the tip

Ill see what i decided to do. im down for whatever comes my way LOL still waiting on my mhi 16g and gaskets. not in a rush for anything.

Little update, just swapped my mounts and no grinding needed. straight up swap LOL and my old motor was only a big exhaust leak, ticking noise was coming from there -_- but turbo blew as is. LOL oh well, got my turbo and now waiting for a special tool for the timing belt and should be ready. extremepsi shipped it out today, hopefully it gets here before the weekend

'89 mIRAGE TURBO Timing mount works perfect with any config of transmision you may have fwd of DSM, fwd of the mirage or AWD.

extreme psi tool worked.
now only thing, i have power in the chasis, but no power inside the car LOL anyone might know what that can be?
fuses are good, my next guess its probably a relay?

this is stopping me to turn on the ride

-------

**UPDATE**

Anyone know where the main relay is located in these mirages? car has power in the engine bay, but no power at all inside, no power in the ignition, lights dont turn on, nothing inside.

Got everything to power, now not getting spark LOL previous owner had like a custom spark coil, gonna swap them out. gotta look into it

i wish previous owner new stuff about it, guy was clueless. not bashing on him, just would make it easier. im the person that doesnt buy projects, not saying i made a mistake LOL out here where i live, im the only 4g63 powered mirage.
but im glad this project happened, as im going through this, finding out things on my own LOL feels great swapping everything with the help of my brother and dad knowing what i did, what it has, always the best. it's like what people say, never buy cars that are modded or swapped. don't know what it has, dont know what problems it has, you will be buying it as is, 50/50. but i must say, got it a for steal price LOL anyways, i will keep everyone updated

you have to mod the 7 bolt 2g mount the same way to fit a 6 bolt in a 2g.

There was actually no modding to do. just swapped the 2g bracket and mount and it's good. engine is in the car sitting straight now.

MPI relay is behind the radio.
Actually got the power going on, but ill keep that in mind. now im just not getting spark, probably a bad coil so im going to swap the coil out for the other one i have. hopefully this work.

ill keep updating

I am actually having trouble with spark. not getting spark at all, can this be a fuse? has to be something simple that i am not getting

**UPDATED **** *****GOT IT STARTED***

Sweet nevermind guys, got it to start :D rearranged some censors and after doing that, started right up. but died 1minlater since i had no gas LOL going to get gas tomorrow in the day light LOL
