Been stumped on this one for a little while now, I've got a 96 eclipse gst and it's a parts swap nightmare.
It has a 97-99 engine harness, with a 1g 7 bolt, 95 ecu, and a auto awd trans.
I've fixed most of the issues I could see with the wiring but I can't seem to find why the fuel pump won't turn on while cranking. I've run the pump by using the test connector so I know the pumps good. I've swapped mpi/fuel pump relays and ohm tested them they passed fine. I've swapped in an known working 95 ecu as well, the injector firing pins were swapped on the ecu connector as per the write up I found on it ( https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/95-96-vs-97-99-harness-differences.455871/ )
So does anyone know of anything I'm missing? Is there anything with the auto side of things that will make the fuel pump not run?

Bizarre, have the same setup cept manual. No issues between harnesses/auto. Your only difference is awd to fwd for the fuel pump harness. You have a gst with awd swap, verify your harness looks like the pic- taken from:

check at the fuel pump relay connector, with the ignition switch on, you should have B+ on pin 3 and 4 (black/white wires)

your running a 2gb or 1g cam sensor, right?

Once the engine is spinning (CAS is pulsing) the ECU pulls pin 8 (The Fuel Pump Control signal)) to ground and continues to hold it low until you turn the car off or the engine stops (CAS stops pulsing for 10 seconds), to keep the fuel pump powered.

@nismojones The car still has the gst fuel tank and rear in it. Guy before only swapped the trans, didnt even have axles in it. So the fuel pump wiring oem for gst yet.
@dustyboner K I'll check that next time I'm at the car. It's currently got the 95-96 cam sensor on it, I cut the 97-99 plug off extended the wiring and put a 95 plug on. I heard this wasn't supposed to cause an issue but maybe that's wrong?
I'm trading a 2g rear bumper for a 97 ecu this weekend so I guess I'll try that ecu as well and see what it does.
Would a faulty cam sensor cause the problem....thinking about it I never did test to see if it was good. Any resistance specs out there on the 95-96 sensors?

you don't swap anything if you are running a 95 ecu with 2ga cam sensor. It doesn't matter which year harness.
The only time you swap injector pins is when your cam sensor signal doesn't match what the ECU is expecting.
So you would only swap them if you had either one of these:
  • 95-96 ECU >>> 1g or 2gb(97-99) cam sensor
  • 97-99 ECU >>> 2ga(95-96) cam sensor

=================
so if you have power to pins 3 & 4,

with the connector (ECU B-53) unplugged, find pin 8 (white/red)
and jump it to a ground on the chassis, turn the key to on and verify the pump is running.

>>is running >>> means the problem could be the ecu isn't receiving the pulse from the cam senor or there is a problem with the ecu

<<not running <<< would mean the there is a problem with the relay or wiring between the relay pin 2 and ecu pin 8 (white/red).
//{It could also be a wiring issue between relay pin 1 and the point the fuel pump check wire is spliced on but if i am remembering right, its spliced on about a foot from the end of the wire. so the chances would be almost 0 }\\>
