96 GS-T.. good decision?

I can get a 96 gs-t for around 1500$ the guy says that a lifter got stuck and it needs new lifters and a new cam sensor, it has one bondo spot. (like i am gonna care about that?) the rest of the car is in good condition in and out. I am 16 and this is the car ive been wanting for a long time, I was wondering if you guys think its a good idea to try to get the car.. he wants 2200$ for it but one of his friends says he would take 1500$ I have an old 90 Laser 1.8l and i would much rather drive the gs-t . I was goin to ask the ppl who know the dsm like the back of their hand how much it would cost to get the parts. and if these things that are listed would be hard to install. i was also wondering if the lifter sticks would it mess anything else up inside the engine? thanks for the help in advance

I'd check out everything else first, but yea...thats a great deal if everything else is in working order. Taking the head off is maybe an hour or so job..maybe a bit more if you've never done it before. You can get new lifters for pretty cheap and get it rebuilt/cleaned while its out for around $100. What did he say was wrong with the Cam Angle Sensor? The only problem with that is that the only cars they came on were 95-96s. You can always swap to any other 4g63 CAS if you wire it in right. You can get those for like $15 bucks, or $5 at my local junkyard!

he didnt say what was wrong with it but it needs a new one... i dont think the guy is very mechanically inclined... it didnt seem like it anyways... he has taken it apart but i havent checked into it yet. i think that it is a good deal. i know how to work on cars and would probly be able to fix it. if the lash adjusters did get locked would the pistons get hit by the valves? thats something i dont wanna do is have to redo the whole engine. but i mean for 1500$ a 2g gst that seems like a good deal. thanks for the help

Well if it locked, I dont' think it would lock with the valve in the open position. The valve spriing should bring it back up if there is nothing moving it. Thats why when there are no lifters or anything, all the valves are closed. It should be ok, but if its apart anyways, you could just pull it off and check.

alright then thanks for the info. i was wondering about that i didnt think it would leave the valves open but i wasnt sure. i am not sure why it needs a CAS. it may not. like i said the guy doesnt sound to mechanically inclined about it. i am goin to try to get this car if i can. i was told that it is completely stock.

i have no clue what your saying about what was wrong with it but hell yeah, i just got a 96 gst and it kicks ass.
