Let's say I had a '96 GST, already with a intake, boost controller and blow off valve. It's also an automatic, what could I do to make it a fast-ass automatic? I know I'm going to get flamed for this but, like the forums say..Newbie Forum... So input please.

The stock A/T tranny is setup for comfort and longevity and for speed and acceleration. However, it is been proven that the stock AT tranny can withstand alot of punishment before it fails due to high HP mods.
Thins to consider are: Shift kit, End Clutches, better tranny cooler and maybe a higher stall torque converter which will complement your turbo's powerband.

Talk to John at Import Performance Transmissions. He can give you the definitive advice when it comes to auto trannies.

<----- Fast ass auto. :D

You can definitely make the auto hold some serious power. As was said before, shift kit, end clutches, upgraded cooler etc. are good to start with. Mod your trans before the engine. John at IPT is the man to talk to. :thumb:

You guys ever heard of a transbrake ( I think that is how you spell it) It allows you to put the car in reverse and forward at the same time so you can sit at the line and build boost and torque. Do they sell those for Eclipses, I wonder?

I drove a FWD A/T for while before I did my AWD and my wife raced the A/T. Like it was said before the best things you can do for an automatic is.

1. End Cutches.
2. Shift Kit
3. Stall Converter
4. Larger Tranny Cooler.

I was able to build boost off the line by simply power braking. The larger stall converter will let you build up more rpms than the stock but you should still be able to build up a lot of boost. I had the 20G on the A/T and anything over 7psi off the line would break the tires loose. I pulled 13.8@101 with a 2.0 60ft before I handed it over to my wife and she pulled 14.1@101 with a 2.4 60ft. This was all at 15psi and the 20G had much more room for improvement. I also invested in a level10 transmission which helped a lot with handling the power. When I upgraded the turbo from 16G to 20G the transmission lasted less than three months before going. Heat is your biggest enemy when you have an A/T. When you power brake make sure you only do it for a few seconds. If the tree does not turn green within 10-15 seconds bail on the run because the tranny fluid gets really hot and this is where you can really kill the automatic transmission.

Honestly it's going to cost a good deal of money to make an automatic 4G63 fast and or quick, but it is worth it.

Also if your considering seriously modding your 2G FWD A/T you may want to talk with Magnus Motorsports about if the 6bolt motor will work in a 2G FWD A/T transmission. Last time I checked it would not.
