420A 96 Eclipse RS sounds like a lawnmower

I have a 96 eclipse rs stock I tore aprt to replace the head gasket replaced my coil pack new plugs drained gas cause it sat for a few months and put fresh 93 and it sounds like a lawn mower back fires and bogs badly it’s backfiring out the intake and exaughst and feels like it’s pushing air back out the intake the only thing undone rn is the vaccume on the throttle body cause I seem to not be able to find anything that shows me where it goes any help would be nice before I tear it completely back down and rebuild it

Are you sure your mechanical timing is correct? Have performed a leak down test since installing the head?

Make sure all your cylinders are getting spark and fuel. Since your saying fits backfiring I’d assume you are getting both just not at the correct time or possible cylinder issue. Is the cam sensor installed correctly?

I will perform a leak down test and if you mean mechanical timing by the belt the can shaft and cam gears yes I’ve checked it multiple times is it possible I put the cams in the wrong spot I just thought about that and the cam sensor is but it’s also the old one it may have went bad I’ll pick one up and try it also
