95 gst redlining at 4500rpm?

im looking to buy another gst but the guy is selling it cheap because it redlines at 4500rpm and hes not sure why. i was thinking its the knock sensor but could it be something else? i dont want to get it only to find out it is a major problem. someone wanna help me out?? heres the add if u wanna read it yourselves

could be all kinds of things like a stutterbox for one.
But someone with experience on this will be in soon.

If i had the money and was near him i would go and look at it with 1,500 in hand and offer 1k if it does as he said and haggle from there if he gos any higher than 1,500 point out all the flaws that you see.

It sounds like a boost leak that may be leading to fuel cut to me. This dude sounds like an absolute idiot though, so who knows what is going on with the car. It does have a "type R" rear bumper though, so that's a BIG PLUS.

Just looking at the keywords this guy entered in the ad makes me hate him even more.

yeah i didnt plan on offering him the full 2200 and ive seen the car in person already and it is pretty straight no leaks or anything. doesnt drip oil or anything. i hate my stealth too heavy im definitely a dsm person. but what would you suggest on the situation? im not toooooo worried about it but i dont want to get sucked into a money pit. times are hard and im on a short of money

and i did see another post on here with a guy having the same problem so thats why i thought it might be the knock sensor. he replaced it and it redlined fine. i had the same problem with my 95 rs n/a and it was a sensor aswell but it only did it occassionaly and it would idle weird bcuz of it

Id talk him down to about $1500 then snatch it up. Sounds like some nice mods he has, and if all are name brand, its well worth the $1500 already.

Either a boost leak or it may actually be running on 3 or less cylinders. I had this problem once before, checked for boost leaks, ect and couldn't find the problem, ended up changing the transistor and it fixed it.

Its probably a boost leak. I wouldn't touch that car with a 10 foot pole honestly, its too modified and its sounds like its been beat. Thats if you guys are talking about it redlining. Honestly, the things he said in the ad made me feel like there is an electrical problem that he is hiding. Maybe something in the ecu. Reread the ad and think about what you would put in an ad if you had nothing to hide. But on the other hand this kid acts like he knows nothing about the car and maybe its a steal for you, if a boost leak is just the case.

UHHHHHH... A boost controller will make it do that? I don't think so. A boost controller controls the maximum boost pressure. It's nothing like a 2-step rev limiter or anti lag.

the guy knows nothing about the car ive talked to him in person. hes more of a civic person. he doesnt know shit about turbos. he seems really honest in person like everything on the add he says is accurate. the car runs perfect and idles perfect and all the power is there like when i drove it and hammered down it picked up very quick but wont go past 4500rpm

Does it have a check engine code? Usually you'll get a random misfire code, or a knock sensor code if the car has a bad sensor.

if its a fuel problem wouldnt it just choke out or be slow? it runs fine idles fine has no choke or anythingits boosting 8psi which seems kinda low doesnt it? but it seems fine no lag or anything. i believe its the stock turbo tho. but would a boost leak really make it redline at 4500? shouldnt it redline normally just lag or something?

What do you mean redline? Redlining is when it hits 7000 rpms, so its definitely not redlining. Do you mean it wont go any higher than 4500? I'm pretty sure that a boost leak will cause this.

Hmmm seems to me the VSS sensor could be the problem. Does the dash indicate speed correctly? Reason I ask is this, if the ecm isnt seeing vehicle speed it may think you are in neutral and free revving. when my vehicle speed sensor gear took a dump my car didnt want to rev past 4500 rpm at which point the ecm limited the max speed to 4500rpm. it was a simple fix for me with dsmlink, just changed the "launch" RPM dialog to normal engine redline of 7500rpm.

I think 4500 rpm is the default max free-rev rpm in the ecu

could it be the aftermarket injectors he has and the pump not able to compensate for the injector size and it hit s fuel cut? Not sure if i read the post right, but he said something about bigger injectors. If it has bigger injectors with stock fuel pump, could be hitting fuel cut. Does it just stop or like stutter at the 4500 mark?

My Car Has The Same Issue.. Just Bought It Two Days Ago.. I Though I'd Have To Replace The Head Or It Was Out Of Timing... Guessing I am Most Likely Wrong. I'm Completely New To The DSM World.. Can Someone Help??? Knock Sensor Maybe?.. Also Has An Idle Issue.. It Revs Up and Down.. Up And down... whenever it feels like it.. i need help big time.. as to locate these sensors and isolate the topping out at 4500 rpms.. help me please.. its wasting so much gas 2g gst 20g turbo 190 walboro fuel pump not tuned all else is completely stock

I think 4500 rpm is the default max free-rev rpm in the ecu

it reads speed correctly and drives normal. also isnt the vss rev limiter your talking about on automaticv cars? i had the same problem with my 95 rs and was told it was bcuz the aftermarket intake didnt have the o2 sensor in it but it would also idle very weird too. this car doesnt do that so im not sure? would a boost leak make it run rich? it runs a little rich but not bad at all. its hard to even notice it unless your looking for it

no i dont think so. i didnt really drive it much, fear of worsening things i just wanted to see if it ran good other than the problem with the 4500rpm

turbo is boosting at 8 psi, nice sounding blow off car is very fast I would low ball him see if you can get it really cheap.

Since this was brought back from the dead you just need to install a, stock turbo. If everything was,stock .
