how many of you guy when you race go up to or over the redline? i'm asking this because all the othere dsmer's in my area say it's bad for the car but i thought u can rev the car up to 8000 on stock internals.cuz when i race i shift at redline

The engine won't blow up if you hit redline or anything like that. But you need to get on a dyno and figure out where your powerband ends and that's when you need to shift

not true, i blew my motor from shifting at redline.

j/k, but i barely do, even when racing(if i know ill beat them). Just because it screams at anything over 5 grand.

Being that DSM's are prone to blowing heads, I would say that redlining may not hurt the bottom of the block, but is a surefire recipe to blowing the top end, as in any car. I agree with boosted95, find out where your powerband is per your set up and work around those parameters.

I shift at around 6500. Even when I goto the track the motor isnt making much (hell maybe less) power after that and there is really just no need to do it in my case.

DSM's are known for blowing "heads"? Sounds wrong to me...

You can rev it up to about 7500, or maybe a bit higher, on stock cams and valvetrain. However, there is no reason to.

Once you get mods like bigger cams and a bigger turbo, then you can rip up there.

I shift at redline in my higher gears. 1st 6300 2nd 6700 3rd 6900-7000 4th 6900- 7000 5th ??? I've never had a problem shifting at redline, the motor seems to take it just fine.

7500?
Really, I am kinda a newbie to the DSM motor but I thought the rev limiter/cut off was 7300 on stock internals? Am I wrong

i usually shift between 6000 and 6500. it doest really pull to much after that, i can actually feel th powerband end around 6500 ish.

Exactly. If you are running the stock 1g or 2g intake manifold, your power is leveling off around 6500-6600 rpm even with cams. Thats the nature of long runners. There is no reason to shift any higher unless you are running a SMIM and cams.

I think its more like DSMs are known for shredding timing belts and bending valves.

Not really. Maybe if you don't change the timing belt when you should have.

I've banged my raised rev limiter at 8200 rpm before, on a stock bottom AND top end. No problems.

I have since brought the rev limiter down a little bit though, there is no reason to be that high.

Do the maintainance you are supposed to, and nothing will happen.

and blowing head gaskets :shhh:

First of all, no they're not. I don't know where you are getting this.

Second of all, redlining the engine has nothing AT ALL to do with blowing the head gasket. You're more likely to blow the HG at the VE/Torque peak, which is about 5500 rpm.

Interesting, I have read on other websites and some on here that have blown HG. I only know what I have read and some experience (not much). Being that you are a wiseman I have no choice to take that as tru knowledge. Thanks for the input.

Weird tho, I always here that DSM's are prone to blowing HG's. Must be the haters ;)
