do you guys redline your non turbo eclipse 1 g engine....like to 7000 without damaging the engine or better yet fricking busting the timing belt?????? i am curious.....very......i wanna drive hard but i dont wanna break the head due to timing belt issues. can i redline...????or go up to at least 6000rpm :dsm:

If you're stock, you can get a chip for your ECU and rev to 10K every day all day while being 100% safe. Just be sure your motor is Stock. Your Stock motor will be 100% safe.

WRONG.

Its not a Honda. Why would you want to rev that high anyway? To even THINK about revving that high you have to have a valvetrain that can handle that abuse, not to mention a DAMN strong tranny.

But what do I know, "chip" your ECU and go rev to 10k. It'd be safe to say a stock NT dsm 4g63's power band isn't anywhere over 7K.

Excuse me if that advice was sarcasm. Hope the original poster hasn't already tried to rev that high already.

hahahaha!!!!!.... yeah it was sarcasm..
I said the exact same thing you said in another post, yet everyone came in there and told me I was stupid for saying that.

I think you should be fine going up to 6500, but I wouldn't take it to the full 7000. You can push your car, but the redline is there for a reason.

But if you do happen to go past 7000 a couple of times for ONLY a VERY small amount of time, you should be ok. The reason I say that is because I had a 94 GS, and when I was driving hard I would always shift right at 6000. But, that car had a problem with not wanting to go into 4th. So if I was shifting fast from 3rd to 4th, sometimes it would slip into 2nd instead, and my engine would rev pretty high for a second til I got the clutch back in. And that never hurt anything. But it's definitely not something I would do intentionally.

To take this type of punishment your engine will need really stiff valve springs, and maybe even lighter valves to prevent your valves from floating and getting crushed. If you don't have time to take your engine apart and rebuild your head, DON'T TRY IT. A stock 4g63 WILL NOT REV TO 10K AND LIVE FOR VERY LONG.

why would you want to get it to 7k anyways, theres no power up there unless you got the mods done to it, but if you got the mods done you obviously would know that 6500 or around there is the optimum time to shift.

its not a honda. we dont need to redline it to get our power. just let the turbo spool and let it do all the work.

even still when i drive my cousins gs and try to race i shift at 6500 cause theres nothing up there unless you got some mods. the power range is like from 4-6k.

He speaks the truth...the power starts to actually go down past the 7000k range. However the reason people like to shift at high rpms is because it puts the engine back higher into the high power range. Revving up to around the 9000k would be kind of pointless because when you shift up again after reaching 9k then the engine speed would fall back to around 7k, (THE END OF THE POWER RANGE) and you would acclerate ALOT slower. Like what said above, shifting this high with the normal 4g63 power curve is VERY pointless, and VERY dangerous to your motor's health.

4G63's are comfortable to 8k, and will take 9k sprints on occasion without a hitch. But it take decent power to pull it.
