my car redlines at 4500rpm as if its got a rev limiter on. I've tested for boost leaks and any vacuum leaks. I've also changed my spark plugs. i was thinking something might be wrong with my ecu. but the other day my speedo stopped working. could my speed sensor be the cause of the rev limiting? or another sensor

After I did my clutch and transmission, my speed sensor wiggled loose. I thought it was a boost leak at first ended up being that speed sensor wasn't plugged in all the way. It's right above the differential, check the harness plug... But mine would definitely cut out when not plugged in correctly.

I've had this issue in the past too. Definitely worth a look, especially if your speedometer doesn't work. ;)

Edit- Just noticed you have a 93. Your speedo is cable driven which is why you can't find any speed sensors. You'll have to replace the cable which runs from the transmission to the cluster board.

However, it's still likely the cause of your problem since the ECU isn't picking up your speed. Replace the cable and go from there.

I don't have dsmlink, but I do have a flashed ecm. My rev limit with the clutch in was 5500 and it took me forever to figure out it had been flashed to this by the previous owner

SJ, if the new (mechanical) cable doesn't fix it, you may need to replace the speedo in the dash (it generates the signal to be sent to the ECU).

Alternatively, you could also simply wire in a 2g VSS sensor to the ECU. This would get your speed signal back in the ECU, but your speedo wouldn't work. You can always install an aftermarket speedo gauge to correct that though.

thanks for the help everyone, soon as I get some extra time ill try troubleshooting it and post what the solution was

anyone know what this was? i was checking out my tranny and noticed it

That's the switch that turns on the reverse/backup lights in the rear when the tranny goes into reverse.
