I did something very stupid the other day while attempting to remove the freeze plugs located right behind the wall of cylinder #4.

Taking youtube's advice, I drilled through the freeze plug in order to get a hammer and then pry it out. Instead, I ended up drilling through the damn cylinder wall FML

I was able to get another block however, it is from a 99. Initially I thought they would both be the same but I found some information stating that there are in fact, 2 versions of the 7 bolt (one using the old style flange bearing and the other, later model which uses a thrust bearing)

Also, I believe I would need to reuse some parts from the 95 in order to make it work such as the cam sprocket and cam sensor.

Now I am by no means a mechanic (obviously, given my newbie f*** up) but I would appreciate any information/ clarification as to what I would need to get this '99 7 bolt block to work on my 95 gsx. Keep in mind, the only part I'm hoping to use from the 99 is the bare block.

Do I then need the 97+ split thrust main bearings?

Can I still use my original 95 crank and head?

Also, what could I do with my damaged original block? I was told that I could have the hole welded and have the machine shop put a sleeve in it. thoughts on this? I'm hoping I could keep it as a spare.

Thank you all in advance!

All 2G's ('95-'99) can use the same crank (FYI - 1G 7-bolts use the same crank also). You will need the '97+ split thrust bearing with your new block. Your '95 head will bolt with no issues to your bare '99 block. Essentially this is plug 'n play.
